Hooray! RavenTai got it. It was the starter cut relay at connector S12. It looks like my leaky windshield leaked onto the relay and corroded it out. After I jumped pins 2 and 4 the truck started. Interestingly the wire at pin 4 was black, not black with a white stripe like it should be.

I'm guessing that the truck sitting for a week helped with the corrosion of the relay. This all happened after I fixed my windshield. I guess there was just enough water left over from before I fixed the leak.

I'll take some pics and post later for what it's worth.

Yay!

Glad you found it
and glad I fixed my windshield leak, it was ont he ECU side

Ok I forgot to take pictures, and they wouldn't have been to exciting anyway.

Well I contacted CDan about the relay and was informed by him that the relay was not available from Toyota and was most likely part of the discontinued wiring harness for the VIP alarm system. He was, however, able to find a source for the relay for me. I turns out that Honda used the same relay in some of their vehicles.

It's a Desno relay, part number 056700-8250 which cross references to Honda part number 39794-SG0-003.

You know something felt weird about buying a part for my Toyota at a Honda dealer.

Ever wonder when you call Dan at work why he's not answering the phone? Yet again we learn it's because he's going the extra mile. Yeesh, how does he find the time to also run a damn tight parts dept??

He has surrounded him self with reliable, compentent parts guys that know out to give outstanding serrvice when he is helping us. robbie

WTF? What's up with Toyota? In my opinion, they are WAY too quick to drop support for their vehicles. It's not like your car is OLD or anything, it's only 9 years old.

You can't even buy a FSM in English for the 24 valve 1HD-FT engine. These were put into vehicles at least as late as 1997, maybe even later in some markets. For them to build a vehicle that will last 30 years with decent maintenance, then stop supporting it before it's 10 years old is BS in my opinion. Besides, it's not like they don't make any MONEY on their parts, eh!???

I guess they stop supporting them because then you can't fix them and then you'll buy a new one!

Hah!!! Fat chance.

Hey ...re-read the post. The relay was from an old VIP ALARM...NOT TOYOTA... And  to Toyota for employing Dan...yet again goes beyond the extra mile.

AFAIK, you can buy HDJ80 FSM's only in the English markets that they were sold (ie. Australia and England). They're not available through Toyota dealers in Canada (I'm assuming which is where you live) because those engines were never sold here. It's Toyota policy to not sell parts to market that never orginaly got those vehicles.

3B / 13B-T parts are still widely available through the correct dealers and these engines have not been made for 15+ years. If you have a CDM FJ / BJ 40 /70 you can still get stuff from any Toyota delaer, albiet you will have to wait for the part because it's not stocked.

I'd hardly call Dana a noob. Might I remind folks that post count only means that some folks have less of a life than others. I think his point is somewhat valid. You'd think Toyota would support their alarm system a little longer. If I'm not mistaken it's a Toyota of USA item, and looking at other USA only items, it seems the port installed stuff gets dropped the earliest.

edit:

I forgot to mention that he joined this site only 3 months after me. Noob indeed.

Calling Dana a noob is like calling C-Dan a parts monkey w/ a mild interest in Cruisers...

Hey! Are you insinuating that I have less of a life than Dana??? :D

Dana's been around the LC world for quite a while...he just doesn't post much here.

you know...there are other Land Cruiser forums...email lists...etc. ;)

I would never insinuate that. I'm flat out saying it. :D

Of course my post count is getting up there so I think I'm implicating myself in my previous statement. ;)

Well gee, Tex, thanks a whole bunch for that nice warm "welcome"! Yeah, I feel all warm and fuzzy now!

I'm new to this site, not new to cruisers at all. My 91 truck has no alarm, so excuuuuuuuuussssse me if I didn't quite get the point that a "VIP" alarm may not be toyota OEM. From the conversation, it sounds like a toyota part that's no longer available. Isn't that what was said?

Toyota does drop support for items way before they should, I have no idea why.

The FSM for 1HD-FT is not available in english anywhere on the planet. Out of print! The guys in UK are currently scanning one to distribute on a CD for those of us who need one. There is NO good reason for Toyota to do that.

BTW Tex, I love toyota vehicles, but the corporation that builds them sucks in many regards. Try to get an importation letter from them. Try to get ANY assistance from them regarding non-usa parts/vehicles.

My comments in no way reflect on C Dan or his association with Toyota. As far as I know, C-Dan is a stand-up guy.

My appologies...was attempting to not allow the thread to go off on a tangent about Toyota...(too late), in stating that it is not that hard to believe they don't carry a part that isn't theres...and to point out how great Dan is by tracking down the same part at a Honda dealership! That is all.

Hopefully aamiggia's post was helpful to you...try sourcing parts/FSM from Toyota in a country the thing was sold in and you might have more luck.

If you want a good look at "disposable" vehicles take a look at some "Detroit" auto makers...

About the warm fuzzies - you might be really offended at the "real" 'Mud welcome.. :D

Thanks

Apology accepted, and greatly appreciated! thanks.

You're right about detroit iron being pretty disposable

And about the "official" mud welcome! I cringe when I think of that! :D

Holy crap, this thread just saved me hours of pain trying to find out why my LC wouldn't start. Turns out the relay was bad. jumped 2&4 and started right up. Now to find a new relay.

Know this thread is mucho old but thanks anyway!
