Seems the window motors in the 80's are weak. Are the motors weak or is it a power issue? I ask cause you can notice a significant decrease in speed/power when you say, roll down more than one window at a time. Any known remedys for this? Any way to speed these up?

I think the root cause of the problem is not the motor but the window not sliding freely in the frame. Some of the guys have "lubed" the window track/slot with a marine grease to loosen things up. Now their windows go up and down with ease.

My guess is that you notice it's slow with 2 windows going up at the same is because -> with the high friction on moving the window, the current to the motors is higher than normal (increased load) and you get more voltage drop in the wiring (that's my guess). Also try it with engine on, mine works better when it's running.

Search the forum for terms like "marine" or "window" maybe and hopefully you'll find some threads.

Don't search on "slow" or you'll get too many hits on the 3FE. :D :flipoff2: :slap:

whats the temp where you are? cold makes them go a LOT slower

I live in Northern VA. Definitely noticed they sucked in the winter. The one night the passenger window wouldn't even move so I had to have my friend pull up on the window while I worked the button.

Anyhow, I buy into the window track theory as I have been in 4runners and other toyotas and have never seen this issue before. And I imagine the window motors across different toyotas are similar if not identical.

Anyhow, I am not super concerned but I plan to have the doors apart soon and thought while I had it all apart it may be worth addressing the windows. I'll check into that marine grease.

Thanks all

i think the wire gauge they used was too small for the power supply.

who's windows stay up in winter.

i live in s. florida, and my windows go up so slowly, that i'm getting tired when i do put them up. putting them down is not a problem. i think it is a power issue and that the motor does need to be replaced. lubing is a temporary solution.

I used some lithium grease on my other car and works fine...only thing is that you need to clean the window once its gone up and down a few times..lithium grease leaves a smoky color on the glass....let me know if you need the lithium grease.

:-) Lubrimatic marine lube...worked like a champ...still smooth after several months on all 4 windows AND the sunroof....
