Are you seriously thinking about doing this to a good running 450? Wait till it needs it at least.

Not my LX. I won't take on a swap for it until it absolutely needs one. Now for my 4 door 40 project maybe...:hmm:

I don't have a viable candidate at the moment.

Rob and david are wanting one pretty bad . David has a bunch of candidates and rob could use one.

Hey, the carpet is missing in the back of that thing......

I think that guy got a little plasma happy... He must be related..

feel free to add to the list. Rob is going to do one pretty soon so I am giving this a bump

That thing would surely peel out if it did not have such monster truck tires on it.

Very nice swap that guy did. He is good.

That's my good friend Kirk McCauley in Akron. I used to work in his fabrication shop back in the day during doctoral work when I lived in Ohio.

Incredible designer and fabricator. We did his first LT-1 swap back in 2004-2005 time period. Then he went back and did the LS2.

His company: http://www.aemquality.com/

Send the 80 to him, cut the check, pick up and peel out!

As of this week, most of the "fixin's" are now here ('96 locked Lexota / 6.0L / 4L80E). Now, this project is next in line to Rob's first conversion on his 80.......

Now there's some secret squirrel s*** for ya...can I be third in line?

I've toyed around with the idea of putting a supercharger on the 1FZ and having the motor reworked to the extent needed to support that. For the money, though, a V8 swap would probably be better all around.

Yeah, Lenny, Rob, and I have talked about this extensively, and while a S/C on a 1FZ is certainly simpler and a little less expensive, the only one I've ridden in was not impressive at all. In fact, I believe Rob's normally-aspirated, 5.29-geared, 40" tall-tired is stronger.

In any event, the V8 is lighter, more fuel efficient, and a LOT more powerful than the S/C'd 6, so we decided (provided it doesn't turn out to be more of a task to convert than expected), that's the best way to go.

Is that Doc's truck and motor?

I'll be very interested to see what Rob can do this for money-wise and still stay in business.

Custom work like this is a slippery slope. If you have to spend too many man hours on stuff the customer starts freaking out at $75 an hour.

Finding and sourcing stuff that has been done/figured out already will save much much money versus building something custom.

Yeah, that's the Lexota. The guy Doc sold it to sent it to Natchez to "his guru" to do some work (have no idea why he didn't send it back to Rob). Whatever the Natchez guy did, it lost oil pressure on the way back to TN. He got it diagnosed at a Toyota dealership, and after getting an $8,000 repair quote, he decided just to sell it.

Rob has researched this swap for some time, and he's confident he can complete the swap in much less time than I would think it would take. In fact, that's what he wants to do: He wants to complete the first conversion on this truck so the next ones can be done in much less time. Mark's Adapters and Painless Wiring appear to have taken a lot of the "cogitating" time out of the conversion, and Rob can run down the list of the other issues that will have to be addressed and their solutions.

It won't be long before Rob gets started......time will tell
