I FIGURED IF ANYONE CAN HELP IT WILL BE THE GUYS ON THIS SITE,

I PURCHASED AN 80 SERIES LAND CRUISER FROM JAPAN HDJ81VX LIMITED:beer:IT SEAMS TOYOTA MAY HAVE OFFERED 4X4 OPTIONS FROM THE FACTORY THAT POSSIBLY DIDNT COME FACTORY HERE IN CANADA OR USA...(REASON FOR MY QUESTION)

I PLAN ON COLLECTOR PLATING MY LAND CRUISER WITH OUR LOCAL AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY...AND THEY ARE OK WITH ME COLLECTOR PLATING THE TRUCK WITH AFTERMARKET BUMPERS SNORKEL ROOF RACK, AS LONG AS IT MEETS FACTORY TOYOTA EQUIPMENT STANDARDS...

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD A SNORKEL AND ROOF BASKET RACK MAYBE A 4X4 BUMPER , 2" LIFT...ETC... :)

THE AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY TOLD ME THAT IF TOYOTA OFFERED THAT AS AN OPTION OR SOLD THE TRUCKS WITH IT AS AN UPGRADE PACKAGE BACK IN AROUND 1990 WHEN THE TRUCK WAS SOLD THEN IT WAS OK, AND THEY WOULD ACCEPT MY APPLICATION. THEY SAID IF ITS ERA SPECIFIC IT MIGH BE OK ASWELL...

MY TRUCK ALREADY HAS LOCKERS AND WINCH FROM FACTORY SO IM GOOD THERE...

PLEASE HELP GUYS!!! IF YOU KNOW OF ANY FACTORY OPTIONS LIKE I LISTED ABOVE OR PACKAGES OFFERED BY TOYOTA PLEASE SEND ME THE LINKS I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!

AFIK there was a snorkel option from the beginning as snorkels are necessary, and have been for decades, when crossing water. There is a thread on here started by @NLXTACY that has all kinds of little nuggets like that. Follow that thread and ask questions of those posting.

There is also a rear AC setup for the 80 series (something I desperately crave), a console reefer, a camper version with a bed, curtains, and cabinets, and so much more. The JDM options are incredible and extensive.

Mine came with a roof rack but no basket I could find; however these trucks are/were used extensively in the EMEA which pretty much necessitated baskets. As far as era specific - land rovers of the 80s and 90s offered baskets (and still do) and as these babies outsold said land rovers you should have no problem there. That said - I don't have a specific source for you (sorry :(). @beno might.

What gets me is the criteria of "in and around 1990". TRD offered superchargers and snorkels, as well as other upgrades, for the 80 series and many people took theirs in a few year after purchase to do the install. Perhaps you should discuss this with your insurance rep as it pertains to the era rather than date of purchase. :meh:

Just my $0.02. Good luck!!!

Thx Mechanist! I looked up @NLXTACY and checked his posts...wasen't able to find any info on factory 80 series 4x4 add ons or if they came with a snorkel from the factory? or arb style bumpers...

Thank you for the message...any and all info is much appreciated!

Perhaps it was in another thread. I read here on the forum somewhere that there was something like 1000 variation/permutations of the 80 series. We only got the wagon but there are pick-ups and flat bed versions as well. There are also old pics of these with snorkels. I don't know how you would prove that without something from Toyoda Industries unless you can find an old repair manual that shows a truck with a snorkel.

Also, in 1995 I almost purchased an fj40 and it had a snorkel. I thought it looked cool. It was black and metal like the bumpers and roll bars but I have no idea if it was factory.

Sorry I couldn't help more. I'm still learning all this stuff.

I don't think there was ever a pickup or flatdeck version of the 80 series, but the 70 series yes.

My JDM HDJ81 has a factory center console fridge, winch, Toyota window visors and sunroof deflector, compass/altimeter in the overhead console, hand throttle, dual batteries, e-adjustable struts, etc. There were also Toyota branded aux lights, rear AC, rear barn doors rather than lift/tailgate, and lots of other little things depending on the market.

What is the point of collector plating it?

@IanB there was a pickup and flatbed (usually with mounted tool boxes) available in S. America, EMEA and I believe Australia. Either that or some very busy fabricators working off the same design. I think the rest of the world refers to it as a "half-van".

Mucho more cheaper to insure.

And often with some restrictions. Where I live, collector plates are similar to pleasure, in that you can only commute to work a max of 4 times per month, so look into this an make sure it's the best option for you.

Any pics of this? I've done some googling and haven't seen anything that didn't look like a custom job.

@IanB no. I think you're probably right. My friend with a farm in South Africa swears his flat bed is 80 series but he's in London now so no pics. It's probably 70 series.
