Anybody got a RH thread tap for 80 rod ends? I believe it is 23mm x 1.75? The drag and tie rods I got from Marlin need a little thread chase on the RH threaded side...

Buy you a beer?

Are you sure on the size, none of my catalogs show that size. Maybe grind a notch in one of the tie rod ends and use it as a chaser?

I'm not sure of the size, that's the problem. I know the "flute" trick, but I'd rather not grind on my brand new rod ends. Anybody have an scrap old one(RH thread 80 rod end)?

Mine are a 1.50 pitch. The major dia is ~20.7, a 20mm thread is ~19.8, 22mm is ~21.8, so 21mm maybe? 21mm isn't even listed in the machinist's handbook!

I've got an email in to the Marlin camp. The tubes might have been point cut on a lathe, rather than a hard tap. I'm fairly sure the tap exists, but I doubt it available in catalogs.

Back in the day, I used to build bicycle frames. The bottom bracket (the spindle that the cranks spin on) threads had a metric diameter with a thread per inch spec. Weird.

I believe the 80 ends were available in 21mm and 23mm diameters. I'll double check the actual ends/rods...to see what I've got.

Marlin tells me it is 23mm x 1.5. If I can't find a tap local, they would take care of me.

Kevin, is this one in the book? Anybody else have/seen this tap?

Thanks!

The catalogs that I have and the machinist's handbook only list even sizes in large metric, 20, 22, 24, up to 48mm. Most of the time that means custom, not a problem, just lots of time and $$$$$! What is the major diameter of your ends?

What is wrong with it, I have a metal lathe?

I'm picking them tomorrow to take a closer/second look.

Kevin,
Thanks for the offer, pm me what part of town you are in. I haven't had access to a lathe in a while:smokin:

He's not offering, he's bragging.

Thank you for your support.:flipoff2:

Threads are simply under cut. Meaning the major and minor diameters of the thread pitch are too small. Not sure what to do other than send them back to Marlin...

I would send them back, picking up and recutting an existing inside thread cut on a different machine would be difficult and he should make it right.
