I like this one as well. If you dont get this one i think its the platform ( level of mods) you should look for.

Best one on the market is still mark Fs. That is the 80 to get. You will eventually do most of those mods anyway. You could probably sell half the stuff in there recoup the some of the cost ; )

Memcruiser needs to finally get an 80 and trump us all.

Durty durty, Lenny...

I hit edit instead of quote ! DOH!

I agree with nolen. Since we are talkin porn,Strip the 80 of most of the goodies, unless you get the price you want. I would still take it down pretty far and sell the parts to recoup some of your costs.
Keep the wheels for the taco.

When ya get a chance i would like to see more pics of the beadlocked wheels unpainted thanks!

E, does a 3fe 80 have vacuum solenoid engagement got 4wd like 62's?

If so, that's likely the problem.

Um, that seller is crazy... 80's are full-time 4WD. So if it didn't work then it wouldn't move. So I'd call him and do two things: First ask him what he means by that comment, and second, how fast can he take his wheels and tires and sell me that rig for $1500!

I will say this though... Catty had a xfer issue in the end where once maximum torque was applied to the CDL it would unlock, causing "front digs" or "rear digs"... but that was only when maximum torque in L was applied going up a hill or obstacle. I even put a new xfer case in it, so it wasn't mechanical, it had to be electrical. Actually one of the reasos it got parted out, no one ever had an answer to it.

That 80, in it's condition could never know the same issue cause though, it appears to have never been shifted into L.

That does not look like a 1992 to me with the leather, color and flares. Also, plenty of power? Is there any chance at all a 3fE owner could make that statement?

Installed my IPOR heavy Duty drag link today. Cruiser Outfitters is out of the good aftermarket 80 series rod ends so I beat out the knuckle rod end and just unscrewed the drag link and screwed the new one in. I replaced the boot and packed the (still tight) OEM rod end back on and buttoned it all up

Now the steering wheel is still 150* off center and it turns farther to the left than right

It drives and tracks right so I am going to leave it until the rod ends get here. I will do Tie Rod then pack it all up for 49 Tire and let them straighten out my mess.

None of the above...
Those are fiberglass flares, 91-92, and more narrow than the plastic ones.
Those may be leather covered seats (can't tell) but the edge of them being sharp and not rounded means that even if it was leather, then it was the port installed covers on the manual seats of a 91-92.
I really wish you coulda driven Cattywampus. I could stomp that 3FE with stock gears and 35's... I could often drop 1FZE's going through the Blood mtn pass heading to Tellico, did it a number of times.
That truck was a dog when I got it, I remember what everyone complains about the 3FE being doggish, but literally with about 5 adjustments it can be peppy. and The adjustments almost seem silly, like adjusting the kick-down cable. But all combined, it would make a 3FE actually have some get up. Timing, AFM, etc definitely made it zoom-zoom.

From your description: tracking straight and turning more one way than the other and steering wheel being off... It's your steering box that's off. So installing the tie rod (pitman arm to knuckle), you prolly need to turn it a few more times (shorten it). Have someone sit in the truck while you rotate the rod a few times. Adjusting the tie rod will not affect the "tracking" of the truck, only turning.

I did that and it only got worse when the steering wheel got straight. What I needed to do was get more of it threaded in the steering box TRE before I installed the rod and started spinning it with a pipe wrench and tightening them both at once.

Again, I know what I did but I don't see getting it right with the calibrated eyeball.

3FE's suck.

And what good would an 80's section be without people hatin' on a reliable engine?

I've owned two 3FE's and two 1FZE's. Liked them both, but given a choice, gimme the 3FE.
Both 1FZE's s*** the bed on me. Both 3FE's ran/run like tops with virtually no maintenence.

I'd like to have a 1FZE from new... it takes much more preventative maintenance than a 3FE... the 3FE is more third world and you could prolly piss in it to get out of the jungle... I realize the 1FZE gets a black eye from the EGR system, and I'd immediately remove/bypass it as I did with mine if I ever had another one... the number 6 blow-by is nothing to take lightly in the US EGR'd 1FZE's....
