I had a weird 80 series day.

I left the door open on Friday and ran the battery down and then the alarm went berserk on me. I never figured out how to override it, I had to go get batteries for my key fob and it turned it off.

Totally screwed me, took me 2 hours to sort out. I still have no clue what to do if I just have a regular key and not a remote key.

We had alarm problems in my wife's LX after the alarm remote broke/ got lost (don't remember what happened) and had to use just the key for a while.

I think you just unlock the door with the key, and then you have to put the key in the ignition and turn it on and then off once or twice before the alarm goes off and you can start it.

I believe Slee had a good alarm instructional on his site (could be mistaken about that, it's been awhile.)

While I was under the dash trying to figure out how to kill the dopey alarm, I found this cable hanging down. One end is attached to the gas pedal at the firewall and one end was hanging.

Anyone know WTF it is? Jakes 97 40th does not have it.

I'll check Slee. My alarm did not work with any of the tricks I can find on Mud with the key turning off and on and such.

That looks like the hand throttle. The knob is obviously missing.

It should be located just in front of your right knee below the dash.

Nope. trash... pull it out, box it up and ship to me. I make sure it gets disposed...

Screw a hand throttle! Really, is that an OEM thing that is just not hooked up on mine? Wire there but no throttle knob? I might hook it up for the poser factor, but man-o-man, I HATE it when people use these things on the trail. With a PTO they are worthwhile......

It was put there.... they do not come OEM in the US. Not sure why it's just hanging though... the US 91-92's do not even have that "fork" bracket on the pedal bucket... so I can't use it.

Did you try locking and unlocking the door with the key? My old Dodge did that a few times and that did the trick. Just an idea.

I did everything. Nothing worked until I went and got a battery for the remote. I even unhooked the battery for 30 min.

If its like the port installed kit on the tacomas just unhook the alarm module. Look under the dash for a black box and unplug the big connector going to it. If its aftermarket find the box and follow the wires to a toggle switch or momentary contact switch. This is the valet switch cycle it a few times then start the truck. If you can't figure it out unplug the horns and remove the hazzard switch and drive it to work and I'll stop by on my lunch break and take a look.

On half ass if you unplug the black box it doesn't start anymore....so it is still alarmed up.

Its good to know the alarms on the 80's are better. The ones on. The tacomas are a joke.

The alarm is serious. Shuts off the ignition. I can't even find the box. I noticed the light on the key fob was weak so I pulled the battery and replaced it and that shut the alarm off. No combination of the key in the door or ignition worked.
