Rob are you talking about the one that is part of Dana's collection? I do not remember seeing that, but that would explain the 5k price tag, I guess.

I think the one in dana's collection does need a motor. Thats why he bought the diesel half cut.

Rob, The 95 has a motor and the 97 needs a new motor. What do you think about the 1995 white one from the link above.

Buy this one!
Actually, I tend to agree with Lenny. That '97, with lowER miles, has had a LOT done to it, AND the 40th editions seem to be bringing pretty good money these days.....only negative is the green color. Like mine, it's starting to have some clear coat issues. Depending on how you'll use it, this is a pretty sweet rig! (Plus, you've probably got good connections on how to get out there to it, right?)

If this 80 is going to be the one that sits in Hot Springs, then buy the 3FE and a 91-92... the maintenance on these engines is so much less than than the 1FZE.
Unless of course you like engine codes that the Damned 1FZE has or will throw within 3 weeks of you purchasing it. Oh and make sure you go ahead and buy the scrub kit for the HG... cause it's Dina... it's gonna blow after 200K miles.
Plus you can pick the 91-92's up alot cheaper and they don't have leather to get hard. AND you're a tall guy right? the seats sit back farther than leather. And YES, there's a huge difference in the way to the two seats feel. Every 80 owner i know who's never sat in a cloth seat 80 freaks when they sit in a cloth seat and sees how much more room it has. Mainly becuase it's manual.
hmm what else? 15" rims means tires are cheaper. The exhaust doesn't whistle whilst hauling butt down the interstate... and it does get annoying.
There is power difference but not enough for me to care and i've owned 2 of each motor... I say 3FE/A440 can't be beat.

The only thing the later years has is inside styling and slight creature comforts, those are over 15 years old those things will be upgraded anyway.

The only way I'd get another 1FZE again is if the engine was in GREAT shape from a PO who knew what they were doing and the truck was great.

I think you might have been shouting when you typed this...

...don't forget to upgrade to leaf springs and front wheel drums!!

And, why you hatin' on whistle tips? That's my favorite part about our LX450:grinpimp:

I think the one in dana's collection does need a motor. Thats why he bought the diesel half cut.

Dana bought the halfcut before he bought the 97 and bought the halfcut because he loved diesels. He then decided that the 97 was too nice to convert and wheel, so decided he bought the 95 to convert, then fix and sell the 97. The 97 needs work, but does not need a replacement engine. The 95 has a good engine, but Dana wanted diesel with the newer engine. He intended to sell the engine after removing it.

There is a noise in the engine of the 97 (I have not personally heard it), but it is currently unknown what exactly it is. I need to try to try to get a mechanic to listen to it and give an idea of what it might be. I am trying to find someone to go to where it is so that it does not need to be driven there. Dana was not sure of what it was or where exactly it was coming from. He was going to spend more time looking at it to figure out what/where the noise was from, but didn't as originally he was going to convert it to diesel and then when he changed his mind on it, he did not get back to it.

This one has a bearing leak. I would be third owner. The previous owners were father and son, so it was at least in the family.

1991 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER

What is a bearing leak? mean Wheel bearing? Front or main seal arch?

good price how many miles are on it?

Front left wheel bearing leak. Has low 200,000s. Eric your the only one suggesting the 91-92 yr models. I do like fabric seats. I hate leather.

Cause I'm one of the only ones that has had both. I just think the 3FE is alot less finicky than the 1FZE. and they're older so cheaper.
Wheel bearing leak is nothing and can be fixed by an axle rebuild which you'll want do do anyway. use that as a strong price lowering point.

In the end I like both engines, and you won't go wrong with either, but I prefer a 3FE more.
