I found an 80 series at pick and pull with a complete canister air filter. I was wondering how hard it would be to put it in my 60?

well it might help to post up some pictures.....since a number of folks most likely don't own an 80 here.

What's to post? I was wondering if anyone has used one on a 60 and how they went about it.

I have one too and planning on putting it under the hood and mate it to a safari snorkel..
I dont know how that would work on a FJ60 with a 2F.
I think it would be easier on a FJ62 as they have the air cleaner assembly on the PS ?

It can def be modded to fit...

It's a 62 air cleaner, but an 80 could be modded in a simlar way I suppose. The key is:
1. Need to desmog
2. Find a carb cap (difficult).

Lovetoski-

Love either your diff breather hose extension cap or someone nicked the other end of your fuel line from the the fuel filter!

Nice air filter build.

its probally a differential breather solution....using a small fuel filter...

So the carb cap has to be a land cruiser one? Crap I was hoping I could get one from something like a samurai or similar. Thanks guys.

The key to making this a direct fit is finding the FJ62 air cleaner assy.

That makes your life significantly easier.

:)

You will also need an applicable cap--a FZJ80 cap will work. Also a 3B or a 2H cap will be fine too.

I'm using a 62 filter can with the 80's reusable filter element in it for my engine swap. As supplied the lid to my filter can was configured to bolt the air flow meter in place. It looked nothing like the filter in the pic above. More like this:

Depending on your fab skills it would be a semi-advanced project but the carb hat is something that can be made. I would use steel or aluminum tube between the filter assembly and the carb hat, with double or triple bellows silicone turbo intercooler type connector hoses.

There are two filters...one is for the front & rear diff breathers, and the other is for the transfer case. I probably could have found a more elegant way to finish those off, but the cheap and durable zip tie won out due to it being so easy.

If your wanting the 62/80 air filter canister so that you can hook-up a snorkel to the 60's carb here's another option.

Take the 62/80 air filter canister, pick-up an Isuzu flex air filter hose from a "Pick-n-pull" scrap yard and convert your existing smog equipt air filter assemble to accept the new air filter canister and keep all your smog gear intact.

Good luck
