After owning a 60 for 6 monthes I had to get the wife an 80. 97 40 th anniversary model, 80k miles, with Lockers. I did not even know about the Lockers until I already bought the truck and then starting reading up on the 80-Series. I guess I got lucky. I think the wife likes it more than I do, she thinks she is tough with that 8000lb winch. I am sure I will be bugging you guys now as much as I do the 60 guys.
Dear lord. How is that winch attached? Please tell me it's attached to the frame and not that bumper. You'll pull that bumper off before you move the truck.
It's a warn mount. It mounts to the frame, going behind and in front of the bumper. I had one before the ARB. It is stout enough for pulling with a 9000lb winch. However, if you hit something with it, it WILL get leveraged into your hood. Damage multiplier, no question. I had mine a long time with no serious problems, but I would ditch it if I were you. The ARB is a much better design.
It is a Warn mount and it is mounted to the frame. I dont think the winch will get a ton of use on her truck. I think I will put it on the 60 when I get new suspension, but I will look into the ARB.
Nice rig. Congrats on making the sale to your spousal unit person. Not always an easy deal. No doubt about the damage multiplier! And it would be just like a spousal unit to waste a perfectly good wreck claim on a trip to Walmart, or the mall. Get that big pimple off there as quick as you can.
I agree with Bull, Collector not 40th, but who really cares? It's a crusher.
Now, let me talk to you for a minute about head gaskets.......git r dun before it gets you.
Like I said I am new to the 80 series, but on the wood trim to the right of the 4WD shifter is a silverish plate that reads 40TH Anniversary Limited Edition # 3058. Can someone tell me exactly what that qualifies as?
I am intrigued now. Once more I will state that I am new to the 80 series. Is this for sure a fact that it is not an anniversary series. Not that it matters that much, but I would like to find out. Is there a way I can match the nubers with the vin number and find out?

A true 40th anniv. edition came in one of two colors: Antique Sage Pearl, often mistaken for grey (see the color in the hardcore section, Project X) or the dark emerald green pictured above.
Also, 40th had two-tone leather seats, wheels with the inner part of the "D" window painted dark grey, and Auto Climate control. The floor mats had the 40th logo embroidered on them, the 40th badges were affixed to the front fender areas and the numbered plaque was on the console. Lastly, all Toyota emblems were "black chrome".
The Collector's Edition was available in a variety of colors. No two-tone leather. They did have the auto climate control, "collector's Edition" floor mats and CE badges on the fender areas. It also had the black chrome emblems.
If your badge on the inside is a 40th badge, it is from another truck. An easy way to see if it is a collector's it to see if it has Auto Climate control on the HVAC system.
It is for sure not a 40th. They were built in 2 colors; sage which was exclusive to the 40th editions, and emerald green which was available on any FZJ80.
FWIW, yours is the second forgery in that color combo that I've seen. I saw one just like yours in Durango, Colorado with the side decal/emblems. I didn't think to look for the dash plaque or the 2-tone seats. At the time I saw the one in CO, I also didn't know the 40ths were only in those 2 colors.
It's really not a big deal. You are in good company; Todd K. also has a fake 40th; faked by the PO, elmariachi.
