80 just took a dump

brokedown tonight coming home from work. thought If i explained what happened someone out there might have had a similar experience.

felt like something just let loose in the motor???!!!! took my exit and heard a nasty thump like something fell off. idling real rough..took off at green and had this loud progressive thud as i accelerated...That was enough..parked it right there. went right to the belts and to my surprise they were all there...timing belt perhaps?
Anyone have this happen?

Oh yeah the real fun began when I called my ex-fiance from years ago to pick me up.

You don't have a timing belt, so not that. If you had a belt, or if the chain you do have broke, engine would stop then and there.

Somebody once posted on having a sparkplug blow out. Not a likely occurence.

Vacuum leak?

Spark plug broke or plug wire come off?
If no, check cap and rotor and coil, sounds like a spark issue to one cylinder.

Thanks for suggestions. Its been a rough week for me..so i decided to just drop it off at my mechanic and let him have at it. I'm spending the day with Cruiserhead(from this board) working on the 40 instead.
Fedex+christmas=major overtime.....just in time

snowwolf..regulator is on top of the feul rail..in plain view as my manual states.
