80 for a 40. I'd like input.

Keep the 80 and go for FJ Cruiser. I've got both. My Old FJ40 was great but untill you drive the new FJ Cruisers you'll get the oh what a feeling means. They handle so nice and you can wheel with the best also.

Go for the 40!!! Iwould trade both my 60 and 80 for one in good shape:cool:

I'd love a 40, but I wouldn't want one as my only daily drive.

I've owned two 40s. They both had factory A/C, plus disk brakes on the front. The 65 40 does not. Both my 40s were quite confortable. I loved those trucks. They were fun to drive, fun to work on. Plus I've got 100s of stories to tell from those vehicles. One of them was an 82 the other an 84.

Having said that, I would not trade my 80 for a 40. Not for a daily driver, not for the trails I like to do. I would love a 1984 FJ40 as a toy. Something to take out on the weekends. Maybe do some wheeling with it. But it gets complicated, 40s are slow on the freeway, specially those early models. Braking is questionable. No power steering. So to make it right, there's a lot of money to be spent. new front axle, power steering. Maybe new engine. The list goes on and on. Do you have the budget for this? Or will you keep it stock and deal with it? 20 years down the line you may say to your self, I should have got that 40. Or you may say "keeping the 80 was the best decision I've made..."

I got to drive my 80 yesterday with no A/C. Bad A/C compressor belt. It was 98°F and unbearable. Plus on the freeway I could not hear the radio, nor my phone ring.

Think about all this when making your choice.

Regards

Alvaro
