How do you all like it? More specifically wondering from 2016 owners as I have experience with the 8 speed in the Lexus that year and it was terrible trying to always upshift to get beat miles per gallon. Ok on the freeway but around town just regular easy acceleration driving was the worst. I believe it was a Toyota/asin also in the Tacoma which people have hated.

Have you had the firmware update performed yet? I don't own an 8-spd but have read a lot on here about the update making a huge difference in shifting performance.

Ah just read about the tsb. Sounds the same as the Lexus but better results on the LC. it looks like 2017 was included in the tsb so perhaps 2018 was the first year the software was updated from the factory.

I’ve had no issues with around town shifting. But mine is a 2018Lx, so I may have just missed it based on production.

Prior to having the TSB software update on my ‘17, I ran in ECT mode all the time just to get decent shifting. Now, I run in normal mode and it’s fine. My only problem is the dealer charged me $118 to do the update, despite my truck being under warranty. I objected, but the response was they always charge for TSB work because TSBs are not a required recall.

2016 2nd owner not sure if that TSB was ever done. I do note a tendency for quick gear changes making LC fill sluggish but it matches my driving style for around town, never in a hurry. Thing I notice most is when you lift off gas to slow down and then get back on gas their is either a lag or abrupt jerk motion as trans finds a new gear. This experience is even more noticeable in first 4 miles or so of driving as things have to warm up. Once for about 2 weeks I drove with PWR button pushed. It definitely changes the shift points and sluggish feeling goes away. I did this however as just experiment and went back to normal mode. I now only use PWR when I pull my boat.
I still need to take my in for recall work and I will have that TSB checked at that time. Not very found of the Round Rock Toyota service department but it is close.
I am middle aged and for around town driving I am very cautious. I am never in hurry I break for yellow lights. I signal lane changes and usually give way. For highway driving I am in top 5% fastest vehicles on road minus constant lane changes. I willing to wait for someone to move over. I ride right except to pass.
To me it is 3ton comfy people mover not race car I drive it as such.

You’ll see in the TSB that it addresses your exact problem. It’s very likely it was never applied to your truck. Take the PDF printout of the TSB from Mud with you because the dealer will have trouble finding it.
