I am curious as to who is running 15x8 rims for 35's versus running a 15x10 rim. I am looking at running 35x12.5x15 tires and want to know if I should runa 10" rim. I need to ar down in the sand dunes and I have a mild 383 sbc. How low can go go down with MT wheels that are 10" vs 8". I was running 33's on 8" rims and would run at 8#s with no issues. Thoughts?

The 33" or 35" doesn't matter, the 12.50 is what matters to the rim. I run my 33"x12.50 on 8" rims with no problem. I think the smaller rim helps hold the bead on when aired down.

Dave is correct, it's the width that matters. I run 14.50 x 36 x 15's on 8" rims, no problems at all.

that said : would you run 33x12.5x16 on 16x8's an would they clear ? with just a shackle lift ?

sorry bout hijakn the thread....

Hi All:

Uh, doubtful!

33X9.5R16 might clear, but the 12.5s are too wide for a mild lift without body tub trimming and wheel spacers to decrease the wheel backspacing (i.e. move the tire away from the body tub.)

Regards,

Alan

I have 35x12.50x15's on 15x 10's and I can't go below 15lbs without the beads leaking, so if you wan't to go down to 8 lbs you better stick to the 8's.

how much backspace you think,,in able to run those 33x12.5x16 ..with a 2" shackle lift...cause I was thinking of running down an buyn a set of steel 16x8 with -4....but i dont want the turtle look

What tires?

Are there certain brands of tires that do not like to be aired down on 10" rims? What tires are you running that leak at 15 pounds?

I have run a few different sets of tires with 10" rims and they all blew a bead when aired down below 15 psi. You have to be really carefull to run lower pressures on the sand. When I switched to 8" rims I was able to air down to 8 psi without any problems and go just about anywhere on the sand. I never blew a bead in the rocks with 8" rims.

I run 35 12x15s on 10 rims on my FJ40. I run 8 pounds on the Rubicon and they definitely burp. They are also harder to turn due to a wider stance but I like the traction and would do it again.

I have 35s on a 10" wheel (BFG 35X12.50). I normally air down to 7 to 10 lbs. Have only chirped a little bit of air out of a tire on a sharp rock that pushed in the side wall. It would have happened to any size wheel. It all depends on the tire when it comes down to it.

It would have happened to any size wheel.

Doubtful...

got me there

Wow, how much you got it there?

Those are 38.5x14.50x15 Swamper SX's on 15x10 steel wheels...

Probably had 8psi in them at the time.

It was parked there, unbeknownst to the owner, for over ten minutes while the vehicles in front on the trail ride in the Black Hills got a vehicle moving that was stuck on the trail.

:meh:
