hey guys.
i rarely get to work on any 70 series rigs although i just finished a 13BT/h55f swap on a customers' fj60. but right now i have a 79 pickup at the shop and one of the things the customer requested was a mild lift. so i got an ome kit for it. simple install, turned out well and rides really nice.
the toughest part was finding some wheels for it. the owner did not want to keep running his split rims and none of the rims from the dealer had the proper back spacing. so we finally had to settle on some procomp wheels. they will be powder-coated flat black in the near future.

i'm gonna be sad to see this truck go back to it's rightful home.....:frown:

but i've had a great time working on it, that's for sure.

Orange,

Take it from me ( also a FJ45 owner ) once the 70 bug gets a hold on you it is almost impossible not to be changed forever ;)

The 70 series still has that nostagic 40 stlye ( with a modern twinge ) and ease of working on.........

So when are you getting one ?

Hi George. Is that an aussie truck,it has that look about it?:D

I think you could have used the 100 series IFS rims with some mild machining. Ishobie was looking at doing something like that

yeah, i know. the 70 series rigs are nice. sooner or later i'll switch from my hj47 troopie to a 70 series troopie. but i just found a bandeirante factory AC unit for mine and i have the ps almost completely figured out so i might just have to stay with mine for a while.

it's just a matter of time before i make the switch.......

it is an aussie truck.

the 100 series rims will not work, waaaaay too much back-spacing. i have a set of LX470 rims off a 2001 at the shop. they have about 6.5" of back spacing. the ones on the truck are 4" back spacing and they work perfect. any more and they'll hit the calipers or the tie rod right where they attach to the steering arms.

I have a set on mine, they do fit with 2 inches of spacers:)

Which procomp application are those rims for? I hate the look of them but would like a wider rim for wheeling. The toyota steelies are only 6.5 wide, 105 series from oz would be nice and I should have bought them right from the get go. I've wasted so much money on rims/spacers for this truck.

sure, with spacers they'll work but i hate wheel spacers.......

i looked for wheels for a while; tried the dealer and had them bring in one of the steelies they offer in 16x8 for the 5 on 150 pattern but it also had the 100 series back spacing, even though the details on them said that they'd fit the 7x series rigs.
procomp ( thru 4wp ) offers one rim in that exact size, but they seem to have discontinued them as well. we wanted to get a set of them in black powdercoat but got a call back saying that they were no longer available. after a few phone calls we were able to put a set of 5 together by drawing from inventory in stores on the east coast. the last rim ( spare 0 will be here early next week, had to come from FL.

so i guess for now the only two options are custom wheels or 100 series stuff with sapcers.

i did call a few of the domestic steel wheel manufacturers but none of them offer anything in the 5 on 150 pattern. :frown:

That's what I thought.

My next set will be from OZ next year, the 105 series should do what I need. With the factory 6.5 (non-split) I have a set of 36X12.5 super swampers, haven't blown a bead yet but they are way too small for that tire.

I run a set of 285/75/16's on the 100 series rims and they fit the rim great - but even with spacers the tires are very close to the frame rails at the rear - the rear axle is shorter than the front. There'd be no way I could run the 36's on the 100 series rim.

Looks like your have a few nice projects going on mate,I think those rims are awsum looking im not to sure about them in flat back though 2 mates have the pro comps on there 79 series and they have front center caps to ,ones that unclip at the end to do your hubs , Aus dosnt seem to be running out of the procomp rims.

rosco when i first seen the pic i thought it looked suspicioulsy aus spec ;)

Its the mirrors, tray and factory snorkle. :D I dont think the bullbar is Toyota, more ARB

i opted to leave the center-caps off but will hand them to the customer. it's his call.....

the wheels are slowly growing on me. still not sure about the polished aluminum but i've seen worse. they do fit great and the back-spacing is perfect.

i got the knuckles on the truck rebuilt today, need to do a little more wiring, and alignment and modify the hitch and then it's outta here.

i'll miss that one for sure........

i do have quite a few other projects going on right now, but this is definetly one of the "coolest" rigs i have worked on so far. i know it'll be back. :grinpimp:

Cool looking troopy :D

My first 70 series was a 75 series 87 troopy with the 2H , that bus was awesome. It was red with the grey interior. At that time it was incredibly rare colour. Nearly all 70 series in Aus then were white with the occasional tan one, Excellent 4wd with the 2H, I did over 470,000 KMS, sold it, and still saw it driving around years later......still miss it:crybaby:

Once you get your troopy you will be fully hooked

Looks like a CFA Field vehicle from Victoria. (Fire) Has the rear subtank been removed? Standard practice to remove them and put the spare wheel under there.

Also, buy my 75! I'll ship it to whatever country you happen to be in. :)

No it was from an old timer in SA, he ordered it new from the factory in that colour, he had to wait many months for it:rolleyes:
I think most 75s are now legal for import into the states now due to their age.

I was referring more to the striping down the alloy tray. Which is CFA standard. I see literally hundreds of them as the company that modifies the vehicles for the CFA is based here in Ballarat (about 10 minute drive from my home) and I drive past it on the way to the mechanics all the time :D

Did they all have the rear fuel cap door in the HJ75 or was it an option?
Didnt become standard on the cab chassis until 95

Rear fuel cap door is for the subtank. You only got it if you got the aux fuel tank

Thats what I was wondering about. It means they couldnt add the extra tank at the dealer if needed.
