Thought on this 78 fj40. Have some reservations given it has diamond plates around the tub and it wish it was patina with original red. That would have been cool. Just wondering thoughts from the group.

He’s missing the spare tire holder and jump seats but otherwise looks like a sweet rig. Just trying to see if I make the trek to go see it. About 3+ hrs north

I have two FJs for sale for just a little more that blow it away

1978?
looks like the engine has been replaced by an earlier one, did Canada have emissions stuff? no ports in the head, alternator on wrong side, etc
front turn signals are wrong

Engine looks like a 2F 258 to me, why do you think it's a 236?

the above stated, alternator and no air rail ports in the head, looking at the other side of the engine would help

So you think it's a 236 with 258 Valve covers, here's my 78 2F

yes, I do still think it is an earlier engine, with later valve cover on it.
your engine has the air injection ports in the head, the OP's doesn't
and it doesn't make any sense to me why the alternator would be moved to the driver side of the engine and wired versus leaving it where it was stock.

it’s probably been swapped to make room for the aftermarket fuse block that all that extra bullshi t wire spaghetti eventually flows to.
