Attached is a picture of the ignitor on my 78 FJ40 with the stock 2F engine. In checking my ignition system, I have found it to be bad. Does anyone out there is cruiserland have one in working order at a reasonable price. Thanks from a rookie, and, learnin every day.

You have a couple of options.

When I took mine out, I cracked it open and found that there is a couple of diodes, resistors, and transistors in it. If you're handy with a multimeter, or know an electronics geek, you can repair it for pennies compared to buying a new one.

Otherwise, you can just bypass the ignitor alltogether and just run it as a standard ignition

From your other post , you said you sre getting steady spark from the coil, what makes you think the igniter is bad.
I have one I could send you ,just pay for the shipping, but please make sure that it is what you need.
Have you followed up on JIM C advice and checked the ignition further?

Tigerstripe: Thanks so much for the advice. Really, I think that I would like to convert to to point and condenser system, but I don't know how to do this. Can you guide me through it step by step. Thank you so very much for your quick reply..

VICM: Sometimes have good spark from coil and then again, have no spark at all. Also did all of checks that Jim recommended and all was well on that end and I found no other problems with the ignition. At this point, I don't see what it can be other than the ignitor. PLEASE. Send me the ignitor and if it is not work, I will gladly send it back, but I would almost bet that the ignitor is the problem.

I shipping by UPS, send to: Frank Gibbs

If by US Mail, send to: Frank Gibbs

I got a message from Tigerstripe on going back to the standard ignition, but I really don't want to do that if I can possibly get the electronic system working.

Thanks for your generous offer. If you can do this for me it will be greatly appreciated. Just shoot me back a message letting me know for sure. Thank you very much.

Hey there Tiger I own a fj40 and it seem to have the bypass system and I'm having the same problem there's no spark coming out of the coil and I put a test light in the coil and got a very weak pulse coming from it I can't find the problem I tried replacing the coil and the contact points cause they were burnt out. I would like to go to an electronic system but I can't find one that doesn't need a igniter

I found it cheaper to go to electronic ignition and remove the stock igniter completely. There is also a performance improvement.
