I found an fj40 1978 that has had a spring over conversion
I can get the whole thing for less than just buying a disc brake
front end.
Anyway. I need to know if I can remove remove all the guts and
put them in my spring under axle. Ie third member fine axel shafts
knuckles out.. etc.
to net me disc brakes in my1970 fj40

 To us late nighters

More or less... yes you can swap all the "guts" Athough unless the axles need a major overhaul, I would just put them (entire axle) under your truck, even if you had to re-weld the spring perches. Dont forget to take into account things like the drivelines which will need to be spliced (different flanges).

Opening up a set of axles is a VERY messy job and while your in there you should replace/upgrade everything so you will never have to do it agian!

That said: Buy the Cruiser, tow it over to me, and i'll trade you my front disk setup for the Cruiser :D

Or I will trade you a sprung under disc housing for that SOA front housing if you are going to rebuild it anyways.

78 has the small knuckle pattern though... (everyone makes a big deal about this)

I have the small knuckles and have been through Rubicon 4 times, and other trails with no problems..

I'll eventually upgrade once I do brake something, whenever that happens..

Did you check to see if the old spring perches were still on there? Many times they are left in place.
Still a good score, they are most likely fine-splined pinions:beer:

time to rumble on this

I read the Faqs. but as usual have a few questions.

Are the kits from Orange45 good quality. oem or better ?

As I have 78 axles Small knuckle and Birf. :( Does the Marlin
superduty seals work?

In swapping the disk stuff over to the newly aquired 1975 40 axle
housing I remember reading that I need a tool for alignment.
Can anyone post a link for buying the tool.

And lastly can I swap my 70 third member into the 75 axel so
I dont have to worry about drive shaft flange issues?

Dunno for sure, but I imagine they will

Most will lend the tool with a deposit equal to it's cost + postage. I borrowed one from a guy in my local club

And lastly can I swap my 70 third member into the 75 axel so
I dont have to worry about drive shaft flange issues? Just swap the pinion flange, no need to swap the whole third.
