Number one I own a 2010 and am very disappointed this thing is failing.

Worse is you have to apparently take the dash off to replace ???

Per my mechanic. What the hell?

I thought I was driving a Toyota not a Land Rover.

I have a 2008 and I had the same issue a few years ago. I was also bummed. I know Toyota wanted some crazy amount to replace so i went to an independent mechanic and he did it for somewhere between $300-$400. To add to the fun my LC has the cooler box between the front 2 seats. That blower motor is also dead. Got a quote for that from Toyota in the $300 range. I've decided that coolbox isn't worth $300 to me so I've just moved on and use it for storage

Just the blower itself? Your mechanic is a boob. It takes 15 min to replace and 1/7th of that price.

Theres a thread with the part number you can order If you can turn a screw driver, you can change it yourself.
wish I woulda know that when i paid to have mine fixed. How bout the coolbox blower...any ideas on that one?

That is a lot of money for labor charge.

The OEM fan only costs around $125. (Motor with the fan)

I would call a dealer or another shop and see what they say for install cost.

I have seen a lot of local shops quote higher than the dealerships mostly because they are unsure what they are getting into.

I don’t believe the the blower motor going out is a common problem with the 200 series.

Did it just stop working?
or
Is it just making noise?

Here is the part number I came up with

I called Toyota and they said 90 minutes labor.

I called back my mechanic and called him a boob. :bounce:

Actually he apologized and said he looked at the manual wrong.

It’s rumbling loudly and vibrating my steering wheel.

Suuuuure  I think he was trying to pull a fast one. I end up using the dealer for almost everything because independent mechanics in my experience have approached or surpassed dealer prices at least in Denver. There is a local indy who only does Toyota and Lexus and charges about double what the dealer does for service and quoted me obscene prices for a repair to a Lexus I used to have. Dingy little garage too, so I went to the Lexus dealer and actually saved money. I had planned to swap my passenger door speaker this weekend but instead just asked my local dealer how much they’d charge to do it. Half an hour labor! Also to mount, balance and install my 34” spare was $16.95. With those prices that’s why I stick to the dealer or Slee.

Noise and vibration usually means leaves, twigs or even rats nest in there.

It gets in through the fresh air intake.

I haven’t changed one on a 200 series yet but I bet it is located under the passenger side dash and not that hard to get to.

The 100 series are easy to get to.

It's under the passenger foot area. Very easy to get to.

I’m taking mine in for the 30,000 mile service in two weeks and I notated, to look at a fan which sounds like it’s under the passenger front and it’s more of a higher pitch sound like it’s a bearing and it’s noisy when first started in the morning and by the end of the day it doesn’t make any noise at all so does this sound like that fan I don’t care they have to fix it, it’s under warranty but I like to give them as much insight as possible. To avoid the sound I’ve just been turn the stereo up louder to avoid the sound I’ve just been turning the stereo up ;)

Great info! I'm not mechanically inclined but I think I might be able to handle this! I'll order the part and report back. Thanks so much!
Was a really easy fix, and @ForrestGrump was very helpful, having blazed the trail before me. Feel free to hit me up with any questions, or this forum at large for that matter. Really glad I found this place, a wealth of knowledgeable and helpful members.... I’ll be bombarding them with questions myself soon as I’m ramping up to do some changes on my own truck!

Actually, he probably looked at it right. I looked it up in my version of the FSM and it showed taking out most of the dash. I figured there's no way that's needed and decided to give it a shot.

As @Tommy Dwyer and @TonyP say, it's a pretty simple swap. Just need to remove the cover below the passenger glovebox, 1-3 screws on the radar, then 3 screws on the blower sub-assembly. Pop off the wiring harness and giggle it on out of there. It has a tendency to get hung up, but it'll eventually fall out. Reverse to install.
