Hey guys, I'm new here and was looking for some advice. I'm active over on TTORA, and have been wheeling my Tacoma since I got it, but I just went and saw an FJ40 today that is for sale locally.
It's actually 2 FJs- the current owner was going to take the best parts off each and make one nicer rig, but is giving up. He's trying to get rid of them both for real cheap, but I'm not sure if it's going to be worth it. Here are the pics, they'll do more good than my talking lol. The engine in the tan one is stock and he started it up for me- after a while of nursing it. Hubs, 4x4 and tranny are all good. Body is obviously shot, and the frame had a lot of surface rust, but I couldn't see or feel any soft spots or holes.

The other one was in a big shed, and it was getting dark so I couldnt get much, photo wise. It's got a much better body, though still needs a lot of work. No visible rust on the frame, surprisingly, and a blown Dodge engine that is already out of the truck.

I know it's hard to estimate, but just how little are these worth? Not looking for a full restoration, but I want it as a dedicated trail rig.
Thanks for any guidance.

Welcome.

Start at 100.00us and go down from there.

Wise decision.........

I'd :steer: away from that mess........

Most of that stuff will buff right out.

*I'd ask him to give you $50 to take it away.

Don't know what you mean by cheap, but you'd be money ahead spending more for a better rig. That looks green, the color of MONEY. If you MUST have it, though, keep us updated. Good luck !!

I would bet by looking at the condition of the tub, that the frame would have some rot as well.

I've bought some rough vehicles over the years and I'd even stay away from them.

Good luck!
