I talked to him over the phone nice guy, but he said he could get 800 for scrap metal and someone offered him 1200, but he said NO he said he would rather scrap it than give it to someone for 1200 where the scrap metal gave gives him 800....

Someone is going to give him $800 for scrap- then sell it for $1200. Last time I checked scrap for cars was under $200 a ton X 2.25 =$450'ish..

Scam or hes just shot out...
dont think its a scam to be honest....just go look at both vehilces. He is the typical seller of toyotas....buying from toyota sellers is like pulling teeth they have famous sayings such as:
-its a toyota they last forever and add value as you drive it
-these go up in value and not down
-its a toyota not a jeep they go up in value
etc......if you dont believe me try to buy from a toyota seller majority of them not all will have something like that to say about toyota in general to justify the value they want to sell it for.

Trying to justify a Toyota is one thing...telling potential buyers, "$2550, or I scrap for much less" ...it is just plain arrogant.

If this was a decent guy, he would have taken the $1200, and let someone go home with a head full of dreams, and see someone finish what he apparently has no more interest in finishing himself.

Anyway you slice it, it sucks, but not the first time I see this :meh:

If you scrap two 40's in that shape ur pretty shot out, and if you scrap 2 40's , Maybe 400 dollars.Wheres the thought behind his reasoning, and where the heck is STANDISH.Im with My wife said no fjs, Just plain arrogant if its not a scam.O well though.....

Scrap metal is paying poorly. 800.. for one car... what yard is paying that?

2 cars... :p heres the thing he has to two both of them to the junk yard so he is wasting his money of course his gains are even less. One runs as long as he puts the steering box in it he saids and the other one is pure junk and has no compression. Either way yes you guys are correct he is a jerk for telling folks he would rather junk it than sell it for 1200 because in my opinion (not that im a expert) its worth max 1500 dollars after what I saw in pictures. Again he needs to install a modified steering box to make the one that runs driveable out of there.

scrap is going from 280 -340 if you know the guy at the yard how meny tons does he think it is
f#(k him:flipoff2:

I'll call and work him over at lunch. Then give a good update for you guys.

Here's the scoop, I called this fella over lunch and we had a nice 20 minute conversation about the 40's.

The 1973 Fj40 shown in the picture is all there. He has installed saginaw power steering, fabbed up a rear tail gate (looks decent, can't really tell), the motor, tranny and tcase work but it hasn't been started in years he says. This truck along with the parts truck is from northern MI. The 40 has been sitting in his garage apart for 15 years. Same with the 73 parts truck.

Reason for selling : The fella, his name is AL (was very pleasant on the phone, not sure why others says he's a jerk), lost interest in the truck over 10 years ago. Aside from running a small repair shop out of his home and being a mechanic for a local stock car crew, his passion really lies with building Mopar cars. This truck isn't going anywhere, especially a salvage yard. He's just trying to get some fair coin for both trucks so he can buy a 67 Barracuda to play with/restore. This guy doesn't have alot of money and I think with what he's got (he says he's got tons of parts that go with it) that probably $1500-$2000 is fair money for the truck. Again we haven't talked money. I have a 79 FJ40 calling my name plus have to finish and move a 78 before I start the 79. My hands are tied on this deal. However someone could get a fair deal with these two trucks.

The good : 73 project with 73 parts truck makes finding parts really easy. Also has titles to both trucks. Frame on the project is good and has had some patch work. Frame on the parts truck is junk.

The bad : truck is 13 hours away from me. Its in BFE Michigan. So for you coasters its pretty darn far away.

Anyway thats the scoop. He's sending me pics and I will pass them on tonight or in the morning.
