I just installed a '78 windshield onto my '71 cruiser. I had to extend the wires from the left side over to the right side to connect to the wiper motor. The wires on the 71 and 78 had the same 4 colors and I spliced them together. The wipers work great, but the first position pulled out is high speed, the second position is low. Is this correct? Its been so long since I had the wipers working I don't remember.

NOTE: the PO of the 78 had swapped 2 of the wires, but I spliced them into mine unswapped. Maybe he did that to make pos 1 the low speed?

Who has a 71? Is the 1st position hi speed or low?

OOPS, its the weekend.......let me know after you are done wheeling

Since your beggin for answers, i got a 73 with the same setup. Later windshield and wipers.

Mine goes slow, and slow. Switch is pretty screwed. But it is "supposed" to speed up on the farther out setting. It did it once.

There ya go. A very vauge, unhelpful answer.

That is why I asked. I thought it was faster in the 2nd (full out) position. But both my heater switches are fast speed in first position, slow speed in second so I was wondering.

On my 71, the settings are fast and faster, inner and outer positions respectively. (An intermittant setting, or at least slow would be nice around here.) My heater switches were the way yours were, too, so I flipped the wires. Might as well have it the way you want.

my 72 is
wipers: first notch = slow, second notch = a little faster

front heater: first = fast, second = off

back heater: first = fast, second = slow

and yes, my little back seat heater works great, worth all the work to get it going. i think my kids like it, too! cruisers get cold in winter
