try google for cabrio de they have awsome soft tops out of germany. I wish I had the $$$ to order one. Post up what you find from yota if you don't mind, can't get JDM parts here from them and all the people that bring them here are crooks! (that I have found so far)

OK, here is why I said buy a new one.

The earliest top is going to be about 22 years old. Even the FRP top takes a beating here. The soft tops look like junk in about 15 years. So you can spend $500 or so on semi junk that will be in even worse shape next year.

Or you can belly up, pay what it takes and get a new one. In ten years you will have a ten year old top with the range of expected issues. If you buy a 20 year old top now and save a few bucks in ten years you will have powder and dust.

As long as there is demand for the parts Toyota keeps making them.

Just my thoughts. I used to cut corners too. Now I understand that I don't have enough money to be cheap. If I can not afford the optimum solution then perhaps the thing I desire will have to wait. It took a very long time to get to this point.

Well...little news on this...

Talked to a 1999 70 owner. He says he wants my top. He says water drips on his head constantly, not through the seems or holes...just in general. He has to water proof it with spray every two months. Its beginning to look more and more like I'll stay FRP.

i have 2 70 seroes rag tops sitting here, both have been here for 2 years outside experiencing our beautiful Alberta weather. the 1987 arrived with a nice tight top that disintagrated the first time i removed it so i bought a new one from Toyota...fits like s*** but keeps the rain out.
the 1991 top looks like it is original and i have had it on and off twice now with no issues. it also keeps the rain out very well.

i would NOT buy a used factory soft top.

seriously, i sell a bikini top that is water tight over the drivers area and can go on in seconds vs the hour it takes to reinstall a factory top...

care to expand on this statement?

sure not to much to expand on though. I have had no positive experiences with any local places that deal with JDM. i have spent alot of money at one perticular shop and they wont even help me with part numbers or compatibility. They charge me full retail price for EVERYTHING no matter how large or small and sometimes the price changes (goes up) depending on who you talk to or how long it takes to drive there. When I first started dealing with them I recomended them to other people and sent them alot of business, that they were aware of. Not so much as a thank you let alone maybe throwing in the tax or something. Now that I have done some more searching it is considerable cheeper to get stuff yourself than buy there. in my mind you shouldn't have to gouge as much as possible every time. sorry if some of my frustration came out in the post but I can't stand people like that. I am sure that there are great JDM dealers out there I just havn't found them yet. Sorry if there was any offence taken to my statment.

I really want to make one when my BJ74 shows up, I have a great guy who built the soft top for the HZJ45 cruiser and his work and price were exellent.
