This was just listed on the Pittsburgh Craigslist for $2000.00. Don't have a clue about FJ55's but thought I would give a heads up here just in case. Not affiliated in any way.

"1970 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55. It is running, has a new exhaust, rebuilt carburetor, new slave cylinder, 4 extra rims, working rear window, excellent frame. This would make a great restoration project. $2000"

I talked to the owner. The roof is caved in and rusted. His intent was to replace the entire roof. Someone has put metallic tape on it covering rust. He claims it's not rusted through, but tape isn't going to be on there covering solid metal.

I asked about window gaskets. From what I got out of him, the fixed windows are decent, some of the others might not be. I think I may have confused him with my question.

I'm having them send me more pictures since it's 320 miles/5 hours from me.

Roof integrity may be as obligatory as the port installed rust.

Only seen one roof that wasn't caved, personally, and it was rusted beyond that of others that were.

I'll lay this out there, as honestly as possible.

Be prepared to do a lot of work, invest time and money. Well worth the experience, in my opinion, and the bond grows as the process unfolds, but eyes wide open is a better policy than blind faith (I speak from experience).

Probably will need rockers, floor pans, fender patches, at the very least. Labor of love, but a lot of labor, be it DIY or paying a pro.

Rust top AND bottom...no thank you.

bobm, they've not sent me any more pictures. With what I've seen of your metal working, this is probably a better pig for you than for me. I'm no where near that league.

Go for it, if you want.

If they say another guy named Hunter is in line, that's me.
