Why SAS and duals.....just go duals now.

duals, and a selectable front locker would be nice!

For some reason I thought I needed to do a pass side drop with SAS? I didn't want to do dual cases with a drivers drop, and then change things when the SAS came along.

I will research this subject further. Is there any other selectable locker for my front diff besides ARB? I don't really want to dump too much into the trucks weak point.

Depends on what axle you want to go with, 8", 9.5, waggy d44, custom, etc....

But I dont think duals now is $ wasted. If you went duals now you obviously have to stay drivers drop. Inchworm makes the "lefty" which simply changes a mini gear drive case to drivers drop. Marlin makes the "taco box" which is a range box off a gear drive that goes in front of your chain drive. The lefty is cheaper and prolly a better setup, plus if you go SA later and end up with a pass side drop axle, you can just swap the lefty parts out, and go back to the stock parts and sell the lefty kit.

If you wait to SAS for gears, you may not get the chance to see if the best setup for you is IFS/duals? Which it might be....

I understand that.

I see mini truck axles come up on clist all the time... usually cheap.
I thought the 2nd/3rd gen frames and the track was wider than the first gen or the 40/55 axles.

IIRC, My buddy in Indiana was looking to do the same to his and he was thinking that a 60 front was the closest width, so he wouldn't have to run any spacers. big pattern for the knuckles and all that...

He wound up trading it for a 40.

IFS and duals may be a great setup, and I think I would like to go that route after some thinking about it. So I'm probably looking at a similar setup to what Geoff has?

I just checked out your garage...Awesome pop up! We used to have one of those when I was a kid. lots of fun setting up. I remember one of the cables snapped one year. I learned some new words from my dad that day...Awesome!

Front WMS to WMS....

Mini axle = 55"

40 series = 57"

60 series = 60"

If I had to do it all over again, my big debate would be SA or IFS. But Duals would be one of my first upgrades after a locker and tires

Geoff is running a lefty right now, and I think he was running a taco box before that....

but all the guys I know that go low gears or duals wind up cussing at the ifs stuff.

Im not sure how duals would make the IFS less bearable. In fact I think it will make the IFS more tolerable. You WILL break it less, and therefore wont have to be worrying about it as much. You can crawl things technically rather than relying on momentum and hoping for the best.

I think it may be the single best mod to IFS....next to a selectable locker.

Well, I'm definitely not speaking from any type of experience.

Might just be beer talk, or it may be just the polite thing to say around someone that only has sa stuff.

I think I would want duals over converting to sa, but I'll probably never buy an ifs truck.
