Recently finished daily driver restoration. Just returned from Oklahoma on about a 400 mile trip without a hiccup. I tried to use all OEM Toyota parts by using vintage part numbers. Some of the things I couldn't find OEM I used CCOT and Cruiser Corps. Original F engine runs smooth and strong. 3 speed column shifts well without grinding. Drum brakes work well and you don't have to use two feet to stop. 4x4 works perfect hi and low range. All electrical has been redone and it has a new fuse block and all lighting is new. Upgraded suspension using new stock bushings, stock springs, HFS shackles, bilstein 5100s, and HFS steering dampener. 5 freshly balanced and aligned bfg 31x10.50s on stock wheels with clips. Has a brand new Interstate battery as well. Interior has been reupholstered and has lots of new dash parts including new gauges.
Brief history about the cruiser...it's been a Texas vehicle it's whole life. Found it behind a Toyota mechanics business near DFW. His uncle bought it for a deer lease vehicle from the original owner in Austin in the early 80s. He took it to his deer lease and when I purchased it, it was only showing 29k miles on the cluster and hadnt been registered since '93. The way it runs and drives I wouldn't question low mileage but the speedometer stopped working so I figure it's around 50-60k. Very little rust before the restore, I only replaced the rear sil where mud was caked and left. All of the floor pans and rocker panels were in great shape. My idea with it was basically a good sanding, priming, and matching the old paint, then get it mechanically reliable.
You can find some imperfections and minor defects from its years being used as just a 4x4. The dash has some extra holes and there are some minor dents that I couldn't fix. The paint is a perfect match to the factory Seminole Red. It looks good, but it's no mint job. I think it turned out well but I understand it's no $50k rig. I do have some touching up to do after putting all the parts back on. I do have a lot invested and the truck is super strong and mechanically sound--it's ready to go anywhere and I wouldn't hesitate driving it. I have a tan cordura OCD top that I will add pics of when I install this weekend. Still needs a few things that will probably be done by the time of sell. Have to find one early wiper arm, and figure out a fuel gauge issue. I'm asking $20k obo and I mean make offers. I just love the hell out of this guy and it's gonna be hard for me to let go. Email me at beau_parker@mac.com with any questions or offers.
Thanks
Beau
