Don't have pictures available. The 66 heater will have a knob you pull out on the front of the heater for defrost. The 68-70 has a handle you lift up in the center at the bottom for defrost. The 71-73 has the handle on teh left side for defrost (pretty the same heater as 68-70). The 74- up has a lever that works defrost/heat/vent on teh left side. The 66 will have a steel housing for the blower. 64-73 used the same blower. 74 and up had a plastic housing for the blower. Post a picture of what you have and I'm sure we can tell you what year it was from.

Edit: SOR shows the pre 68 blower as being different. Not sure what that difference is.

That heater started with the 68 model around 8/67. Never seen one in a non-padded dash FJ40 (US model). The handle on the side started around 71 or 72. I think the handle change had to do with being in the way of the transmission shifter on the floor. I know I have at least one with the side handle and the slit for a handle in the front. I have four or five of these tucked away. One from a FJ55 that has three defrost holes openings. Two and a parts of one of the early ones and not sure how many later style heater. It seems there were same changes to those too. Never can tell when the next ice age will start:rolleyes:

I learned something today, thanks!

Thanks everyone. Unfortunate for me is that I bought the newer style not the one for the rig today to work. Shane how much for the one you want? Can we work a deal for seat covers?

We can.

So the next question is how do you get the knob off of the heater? I'd like to blast the parts then paint them. I've removed everything else but that. Also, is there a trick to separating the blower motor from the housing? It turns free, a little noisy, but I think all I need to do is change the wiring out since the PO cut them just outside of the housing.

Thanks for the help...
