I really appreciate your advice and feedback. I know it is a difficult question to answer because I'm requesting an objective answer to what really is a subjective question. But I hope I have more clearly relayed the condition of this FJ40. Ron.

Very nice looking rig, PTO is very nice. I would not put any value on the original miles, or that it lived its life on the farm. I see to many of these advertised as low original mies, and only used on a ranch and so on. Old lady who only drove to church on Sundays story of the 4x4 world I guess. Looks nice and if it drives well and starts well that is what you should rely on. Some good pictures of the interior and engine bay would be good. It should have the vin plate on the left side of the firewall, it will have the frame and engine number on it. So it will be real easy to see if it matches the number on the engine. Will let you know if it is the original engine or not.

Hey now...that looks pretty decent!

Cruiser_Nerd once told me that one of his best engines came out of a low mileage plow rig...says it ran like a top, so this might be a plus for you :D

Front bumper and rims are obviously not original, but if it has it's original F135 engine, I'd most likely go for it

that's funny

The bezel is upside down? Yes, it doesn't have original wheels on it but all five originals come with it. It actually runs really well-it does not burn oil (no burned oil smell in exhaust anyway) and it starts right up and idles ok. I drove it around the sellers neighborhood;it shifts fine and the clutch feels acceptable. I put it into 4 wheel drive high and low with the hubs locked and it drove ok that way too. The brakes surprized how firm they felt. He said that it had brake work recently. I don't care that much if it needs mechanical work-that's my specialty and I enjoy rebuilding engines and gearboxes and all they other stuff. It would just be nice to be able to drive it around town and onto the local trails right away before I start tearing it down to restore it.

That looks to be a very good find. I'd try to negotiate some on price, but at $3000 you wouldn't be doing badly.

:D

The 'fatter' part of the bezel goes on top...it centers the TOYOTA (attached is a picture of a then brand new '66)

Here is a great video clip of Dave hand starting his F135 :)

YouTube - HandCrankMovie.avi

Dave made that look easy. A friend of mine tried starting the 2F in my parts truck... Didn't start and almost broke his wrist when it kicked back.:hmm:

prop starting...

That footage reminds me of hand-propping a Piper Cub! The seller said it's a 1F engine-he's going to email some more photos of the rig he has already taken. Most pics will be with the original wheels and front bumper (was damaged and now gone). He's also going to find the vin and engine tag-pretty nice guy. I'll post some of those when I get them. There's just a few extra parts with it-that's the way he bought it: heater assembly (doesn't work), spare pto (needs rebuilding), the wheels, and he's throwing in the tow bar too.

sweet rig, I'm hooked

Hey, My wife said no FJ, is that your blue 64? Gorgeous, man. I think I'll so my wife that photo and tell her that's the one I'm buying:bang:

I wish...unfortunately not...my '64 was found in a barn, and had not moved in almost 10 years or so, and needs lots of love. I have had to put my project aside for a short spell, but am still gathering original parts when I can...I am in no rush :) BTW...my wife also wishes our '64 looked as good as that blue '66 ;)

Here is a cool picture of an original '64...not mine either...
