Hey gang, I can't figure this one out. This morning I went out to start the cruiser and it won't go. When I turn the key the radio, dash lights, fan ect. come on but when I turn it all the way to start it I get nothing. No clicking, no attempt to turn over, nothing but the whir of the fan. So I tried turning off all the accessories, to see if the battery might be on its last legs. No change. Then I cleaned all the terminals and poked around for some loose wiring but found none( not to say that isn't the problem still). I even tried swapping the battery from my minitruck into her just to see if was the battery and still nothing. The funny thing is that I drove it last night and every day before that and have never even noticed any symptoms of anything going bad. I hate to have it towed over to the toyota dealer but that will probably be my only other choice if you guys can't help me. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Mattlock

Try repeatedly turning the key to the start positiion over and over and hope that it fires. Could be the starter solenoid contacts need replacing and repeated attempts at starting might get the truck running.

Alright, I got it running by wacking the starter with a hammer a couple of times. Now my question is whether or not I should just replace the whole starter or if I should try to rebuild it or if there might be some loose wiring down there that caused the trouble in the first place. It seems to start really good right now, so I wonder if I need to replace anything or if the hammer trick will work for awhile. I realize that this seems like alot BS for one measely starter, but money is kind of tight these days and if I can limp her through the winter I probably will. Thanks again for any help. Mattlock

Try this, Turn your lights on, turn the key
- if they dim, the starter is recieving voltage and drawing current. Problem is with the starter. If not, the solenoid isn't engaging. Either way, give it a (gentel) whack with a rubber mallet (safer) or a steel hammer (remember to be carefull of the terminals - sparks and damage!!!)
- If they dont dim, check the connection to the solenoid on the starter. Might be as simple as loose connector. Watch you fingers though and don't get zapped. Could also be a bad contact in the ignition switch. You will need a DVM and ideally a friend in the cab. If you have the tools, a remote started will help identify if the issue is the key swtich. Good luck!

"DVM"
"Remote started"

???

I'm having the same problem but I don't know what either of these things is.

Your solenoid contacts are bad and need to be replaced. Common problem. Easy fix. Cheap parts. Quick job.

DVM digital volt meter to test voltage at contact points

remote start switch to by pass the ignition switch to see if the problem is at the starter or ignition switch or relay basic switch you can make your self with a momemtary on switch and 2 alligator leads

I thought he meant Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, but I couldn't figure out how that would help.;)

Good luck, hopefully it's a quick fix for you.
