I have a shop, highly recommended ,to replace my kick -down cable in my 89 fj-62. With my parts 295.00. Sounds ok to me what do you guys think? Mike

Are you talking about the throttle position sensor cable? There is not a kick down cable on your tranny. If you are talking about that cable that goes to the tranny from the throttle plate, Mine was sticking and not allowing the tranny to up shift after you stomped on the gas. To find out if yours is sticking, with the motor off, move the throttle plate by hand and watch the tranny cable to see if it moves freely

If that cable is sticking in the casing/housing, remove the end from the throttle plate, rap a rag around the housing and spray the heck out of the cable with WD-40,let it run into the cable housing and start working the cable by hand. This cured the shifting problem I was having.

If you know the cable is broken, that price is probably OK as the tranny has to be partially taken apart to replace it.

Best of Luck

Not sure if this link helps but it sounds relatively straightfoward (just messy), $300 seems high to me but I am basing my opinion on nothing of substance. The link references replacing the VB gaskets while in there, I would assume $300 includes these?

It is for the trans.I have tried the wd-40. thanks, Mike

That is right in line with what I paid for the same job, but you have it a little cheaper.

$60 for the part - Shop ordered it.
3.60 hrs @ $85 per hour = $306.00 - Total bill was $371 including tax.
I believe the job requires dropping the pan on the transmission.

Jeez, I did not remember it costing that much, but now that I look at the receipt....

I had Integrity Transmission replace the cable, cruiser runs like new again. They are in Rockwall ,Texas .I really liked dealing with them, they do all trans. and clutch work. I rarely recommend anyone, these folks were great! Mike
