Does anyone have any tips on replacing a kickdown cable? I just got a used tranny A440F, and when it was removed the cable was cut.:whoops: Do I need a service manual to do this fix?

Im glad I had a manual when I did mine, cost about $20.00 bucks, worth every penny. the only advice I have for you is to have all the gasket and stuff on hand to get it done. Also be prepared to replace the valve body gaskets. They are'nt expensive and this is where having the FSM is a plus. If it were me I'd get an FSM, study up on it, get the parts and all your fluids and then hammer down and do it. Good luck to you  .

Do you have to open the pan to change the cable? I seem to remember just disconnecting it when i pulled my tranny.

Basically
1. Drain Fluid
2. Remove Pan
3. Remove filter
4. Drop Valve Body
you should make a plate to hold back the Accumulator or Actuator pistons (FSM).
5. Tilt valve body to acces the Cable connection.

Mind you that you will be getting soaked in ATF while you're doing this.
It's not hard, but very messy If you damage the valve body gasket while doing this it will need to be replaced as well. Having the FSM to go by will be the way to go. Trust me Good Luck to you  .
