So are all 200 plus of these old things that were imported going to show up. Seems every couple of months another one appears. There are three 25s for sale on the west coast right now, where are these things coming from. You would think our forum would have alot more 25s owners active in it with a many of the 25s still out there. I know Jim (Cruiser_Nerd) has contacted alot of them. Where are you guys?

if that link does not work pics are in "official 25 pic thread" from Landpimp....it had tranny troubles last I checked...

el_brazo had his for sale a while back

I thought I saw a hardtop for sale in So Cal, been there for a while off and on...

These are all known rigs looking for a new home, but you are right, a "new" one pops up fairly regularly....

I thought the same thing about the one on craigslist, el_brazo (Joel) is still for sale. Listed in the general for sale section now.

So what does the hard top look like Phil? I thought it was on SOR site a while back. Seems at one time the price was about double.

John Holmaas is in Gig Harbor. Maybe he knows the rig.

We think it' the one that John posted in the link above. It looks green now with no top. In the pictures in the link it's red and has a later grey hard top with non-OEM soft doors.

YUP, its the same one, she has painted it a few times, after 9/11 it was painted red/white/blue, now its something else. Its pretty much all there and very solid, no real not. Runs(or did), needs brake work.

It sold(when CJ, who is a "chick" bought it) for $800, it had been for sale for $2500 for ages, the owners dad dumped it one day for $800, I was 5 min late. I have offered 1k for it a few times. Its been in Gig harbor for at least 10 years, it sold on a used car lot in town after sitting for a year, then some kid had it, then some other kid, then CJ. I think its been in WA sense new.

has a roll bar and bucket out of a parts 40 I had laying around.

drop gate is very nice.

I know if 3-4 25's around these parts.

If someone is REALLY interested I can go take some pics of it.

Yeah, I'm interested. If you could get some pics and more info on it, that would be great!! Do you think $2k is a bit high?

Depends what you want to do with it. I think the 16" wheels are long gone as well as many other 25 only parts. So if your going to restore it than maybe high. But if it run and you don't care how original it is than I would say it's worth depending on it mechanical condition. Any good running non rusted cruiser is worth 2K unless most of the stuff on it is worthless to you for restoring it. The first the I want to know does it have the right front bumper, vacuum wipers, wheels, steering wheel, transmission and many other parts that are off only the FJ25s. All things that are hard to find for restoring a FJ25. Whats the value of spokes wheels, aftermarket steering wheel and other parts that you could sell for next to nothing to help recover part of your cost. You could double the price of the vehicle just getting these parts that's if you could find them. A few of use are paying $250 apiece just for a reproduced non available Toyota emblem.

I'll see what I can do, but here is the problem, if I go take pics.......I will prolly end up buying it.......and I don't want it ;)

This year I am getting rid of a few un-used Cruisers........time to send to better homes.......I need to drag a 25 home like a hole in my head......

Hello, everyone,

My name is Chris, and I just bought the 61 over the weekend. It's my first LC, but not my first "project" vehicle, by any means. It's pretty funny to me that I came across this thread while trying to determine what I've gotten myself into.

I hope to get the fj into reliable, somewhat comfortable, condition without changing it any further from stock condition than money and parts availability dictates...

It seems that some of you know the history of this ride, so any good or bad news would be helpful. Here's what I know:

The mechanical fuel pump has been bypassed with an electric one.
The carb is missing some linkage for the choke.
The shift lever (floor shift) is broken somewhere below the threads for the knob
The front brake drums are supposedly worn beyond spec (so they can't be turned again :frown: ) and pull hard to one side.

Anyway, I hope to get it rolling asap, and I'll keep a friendly eye out for old LandCruisers on the road.

Cheers,
Chris McCoy

Welcome Chris!!! You have just joined the "elite". Owning a 25 is quite an experience when it comes to procuring parts.

Ditch the electric pump. Any F motor fuel pump will work on the engine. But the correct pump looks like this:

DSC00018_sm.JPG
Yes, the fuel line is all soft from the tank to the inlet of the pump. It should be this brownish red colored soft line and I've not seen one go bad even after 40 years of use. Its tough stuff. Then theres a short section of the same on the outlet that goes to a hard line to the carb. It still has the original 1 barrel carb?

I have a parts 1 barrel. Some of it has been taken though. Let me know what exactly you need and we can work something out.

Bummer on the shifter. I can't help ya there. Maybe someone else on this board has one.

For reference, the front and rear drums are different. (ask me how I know).

And the last thing, throw NOTHING OUT :)

I wonder if you can get drums re-lined like you can for hydraulic cylinders? Check with white post restorations if someone doesnt have a usable set of drums that they'll part with. Theyre on the web.

Mike, I am expacting those clear bib lights as my farewell gift from you. :D and please tell me also how front and rear drums are different? its gonna help me on this weekend when I will replace all the brake shoes on mine.

Archie,

Maybe Marv Specter will give you a set :) He's the one with lots of $$$ :)

They are reproductions sold through SOR, as are the tail lights.

I believe the offset is different slightly between the front and rear drums. Just mark them.

Yeah good idea, I have to return marv the repro tail lights, since I found NOS now. :D I know he will have problems in taking them back, so I will ask him to exchange it for clear one.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'm sure the list of needs is just beginning on my new buddy, otherwise, someone smarter would have bought the 61 before I got the chance to even read the ad. ;)

About the fuel pump: The mechanical pump is still in place on the block, it's just been bypassed. It doesn't look like the one in your pic, foxfab, but more like the one from my old Y-Block Galaxie. It has a glass dome on top. What's with the lever on the one you showed?

Now for the question every new person asks  What do you do if your drums are SOL? I'll do some snooping about drum relining, but I can't believe I'm the first to travel this goat path...

Someday, I'll have more answers than questions.

Later,
Chris
