hey guys- I am trying to get into a 60 series, and have been watching what is for sale for the the past several months.

I ran across this one in SoCal, and the guy needs to sell it. He says:

1. needs about $2k worth of rust removal around the door jams and undercarriage (received a quote)
2. body has one small dent
3. original interior in good shape
4. Ca smog test pass with original carb

1985 Toyota Landcruiser FJ60 - Xllnt Cond. In/Out, Very Low Miles!

I'd hate to fly out there just to find out it is not what I want. Any suggestions?

sorry for the noob post!

Maybe reach out to the so cal ih8mud crowd and see if anyone near culver city would be willing to look at it for you?
If you need it, get the VIN and pm it to me and ill send the carfax to your email for some more info. Looks like a nice truck but rust can be challenging imo

Xllnt cond. In/out doesn't equal $2,000 in rust repair. Would take Murf's offer of CarFax to see where it's been. I would be afraid $2,000 in rust repair would only be the start. 60 series frame have been known to have rust issues depending on where it been used. Back in 92 starting looking for a FJ62. Didn't find one worth buying until July 93. I would hold off for one that didn't require thousands in rust repair unless your looking for a trail beater which this one is priced to high for that.

I can do that. When you say rust is a concern- I assume you mean more than just surface rust. How does one handicap undercarriage rust that may not look deep vs the typical spots near the doors and windows?

Looks like its not viewable without a FB account?

That rig has been for sale a few times. The story is that a shop in Phoenix built the truck and that the owner couldn't drive a manual, thus the A440F. Supposedly some of his friends had LCs and he wanted one too. I seem to remember something about the motor going south shortly after he took delivery...then something about him going back and forth with the shop to get it fixed. Something like that...

That is interesting. I was actually planning on dropping by today to take a look at the vehicle. Probably just an educating moment for me, because a few people have already looked at it and passed, per the seller.

Temporary plate, Howell fuel injection kit? I suspect possibly smog and registration issues may be why this is available?

Why’s that? Don’t follow.

Assuming this was a toy for the family and they lost interest when done.

My contact cancelled, so will check out next week.

My concern is that like many of these projects they often don’t ever get quite done and get sold with just a couple things to button up that wind up being a big hassle. On this truck there has been a frame off restoration, an engine overhaul, an auto tranny swap, a fuel injection system added, a new exhaust plus ARB’s and a compressor added, so a lot of money spent and yet it sits with a temporary plate assigned to it, why? A standard registration renewal would be $30 or so. Why would someone invest all that money into a truck that could pass emissions and not register it? It’s just something I would want to have a conversation about. Combined with PBR’s account above which I recall too, it’s had some history.
It’s possible the pictures are old too, and maybe everything is good to go and the temp plate has been replaced with a permanent plate, don’t know.
