So a 85 speed is what I have and I am going to switch it to auto. I was talking to a place to get the parts, but he told me I need the tranny/tcase from him. He is making it sound like the tcase on mine won't work with a auto? Evvery part is stock. If that is the case then I am just pulling the engine and going V8. Could you guys clear this up? Thanks.

Which auto are you wanting to put in? I'm assuming an A440F out of an FJ62? Why couldn't you get the tranny/tcase out of a parts truck? FYI, the t-case on a 62 is vacuum actuated, I believe that you can retrofit the shift linkage parts but it involves a lot of work. I'm not totally clear if your t-case would swap over to the auto. Maybe someone more knowledgable will chime in.

If you are going to auto anyway, why waste time on an A440F? While the tranny is rock solid for lots of miles, it will suck the power (any auto will). You'll hate the engine after you put the tranny in. Drive a 62, the engine in one of those is more powerful than your 2F. I'd say go 350 with a GM autotranny already hooked to it. Only one major adapter needed (tranny to t-case) you can talk to Advance Adapters for that.
