Just got some new 285/65/18 BFG at 50 PSI on my stock rims (LC200). Can the stock valve stems / valve cores handle the pressure?

Also, is 50 PSI a good pressure on those tires for highway driving?

What is the recommended PSI for driving on sand with those tires?

Thanks.

You will be able to see the maximum PSI for the tyre somewhere on the sidewall.

50 PSI sounds like a LOT. Refer to the user manual for a guide to tyre pressures.

Why would you want to put 50 PSI in them? Are you going to be hauling a 10,000# trailer?

Put the manufacturers recommended pressure in them. It's on the door sticker, not on the side of the tire. That's max inflation.

On sand low is good. I think 10-12 ought to be able to hold on the rim OK.

1- Recommended tire pressure (33PSI) on the door is for stock only. When you change size, it no longer applies.
2- this particular BFG tire is a 80 PSI max cold pressure.
3- I assume no towing.

At 33PSI, the stock tires can hold about 2400 lbs (each tire).
At 50PSI, these BFG at that size can hold about 2500 lbs (each tire). The 50PSI was the result of the conversion from stock tire to new tire assuming approximately the same load.

I would draw a chalk line across each tire and drive up and down the street a little...and then see what amount of the chalk is left. I'm thinking that with that much air in the tires, you're gonna wear the center of the tire out before the edges...

what is the original load range of the tire and what is the new load range? D or E?

Yes, the chalk method would be the best method.

My new BFG's are "LT" tires load range E, while the stock Dunlops were "P" tires and don't even have the same type of load range labeling.
