5 lug nuts are overkill, right?

The last guy to balance and align my tires must have been part gorilla. It's not a good feeling hearing "PING" when you're trying to get that lug nut off.

The bright side is that the rear pads seem to work nice. No more squeaking (for now) and the light pulsing I was feeling in the pedal is gone (for now).

What do I do about that broken bolt? Is it safe to drive?

Fawk.

I just had a thought. I just broke off a big ass bolt with the tire iron supplied in my OEM tool bag. I'm freakin Superman. Anyone want to arm wrestle? I'll take two of you on at once. HAHA... I weigh like 155lbs wet. Cheap ass lug.

I think it's safe to drive to the dealer to get it fixed. I wouldn't push too hard though, it's down 20% of it's attachment and clamping force.

For reference, I drove a VW bus for years with just 4 lugs on one of the front wheels after I broke one off and lived to tell the tale.

I used to have a 4 lug mustang and one broke and then it broke another one. I could barely wobble back the 1 mile to fix it. Thank good ness I wasnt far out. I have 1 broken lug on the rear of my 62 now and I will fix it when I get a chance, its a little diff with 5 or 6 that 4 :)

I would get it fixed or fix it yourself as soon as you can.

So in reference to the other thread, the shaking is now gone?

There was never any real "shaking". But all is cool now. The rotors were in better shape than I thought. One still might be warped a bit, but I can't tell now.

Pskhaat,

You rock. How long did you drive it with the broken stud?

FYI everyone. Cruiserdan is the best. My local stealership charges 15% - 30% over retail for parts. Going with Cruiserdan can save you a lot of money.

The jeeps I've seen only run five lug nuts and some of those guys run a lot harder than any of us do. You should be fine with just five.

I think the point is: 5 is standard on the 100, he broke 1, and so is down to 4. At least that's how I interpreted the question.

Wrong forum, thought we were talking about 80s

...you're going to die, replace it right now.

:)

Damn, that 100 lug is a big muther, you must be Superman! While I was disappointed that Toyota downsized the number of lugs in the 100, at least they made them beefier, but this is the first I've heard of one breaking. Hopefully it's an aberration, because with only five lugs, you don't have a lot of wiggle room (no pun intended) if you snap one...

you only need a couple :D . look at the old LeCar they ran just 3

You should be able to get a new stud put in at most tire and brake shops. They have to know how. They tend to break them off alot because they torque too much with the air wrenches.

For a while, week or two, you'll be fine, but definetely worth replacing it obviously. It's inapplicable here, but my brother wheeled his 80 (hard!) for like 2 years with a broken stud. Priorities I guess.

I could not break that 14mm stud no matter what I did, or what cheater I used. I had to bring it to the stealership who had to put on an electric heavy truck impact wrench that rolled on wheels to break it off (but I'm guessing something was lodged in the threads).

Nice write up Pskhaat.

That'll make life so much easier for him.

I have a feeling that the tire place I took it too last did most of the breaking for me. Then again, I have been working out lately. It's a good thing none of you took my up on my off to arm wrestle. I don't carry that much liability insurance.

You must be another one of those 250+lb softies. :flipoff2: I twisted off two on my 80.

BTW: I'm about 165 too. In retrospect, maybe I shouldn't have tied my tire iron to the concrete post before I put it in reverse, huh?!?! :flipoff2:

Nice write up anyways!
