So i purchased a 1989 62 yesterday for 1 thousand bucks. (Pictures soon to follow) She has her share of rust but the drive train is solid and the frame is darn near perfect, but i cant get the 4WD Hi light to go out when i push the button. Low range work great, the truck does not a apear to be in 4WD Hi although the light is on. Any Idean what could be causing this?
mine did this recently. It turned out to be the valve that takes it back into 2WD from 4WD. Have you checked to see if the front drive shaft will spin freely? Are your hubs still locked? Try switching the vacuum lines that are on the two valves that switch from 2-4WD and then back again.(located on the firewall PS just below the hood line) The vacuum lines that I swithced were the ones that pointed out towards the front of the rig. One is on top of the other. After I swithched those the 4WD light turned off. If it goes off for you chances are you have a bad valve. Search for alternative valves. The LC spacific ones are very expensive and there is a very easy mod to put a 4runner(I think) valve in its place. Then there is the chance that I am wrong and it is something totally different. If thats the case I wish you the best of luck.

I don't mean to be that guy but seriously. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. Here is a whole writeup for your problem, and there are a dozen other threads on this.
I checked my local dealership today for the valve suggested in the thread pointed out by calphi27, and they can get Toyota part number 88690-89132 for $28.50. This mod written up by Randy88FJ62 is one of the better fixes for this problem I've seen on here.
