One of the reasons I bought my particular 1991'Runner is because it had the sweet spare tire carrier on the back. Were these an expensive option back in the day or something? It seems like I see so few of them on other 4Runners of the same era.

When I was looking for an old 4Runner, I held out for one that had it, and it took a long while to find one.

With the high price for custom rear mounted swing away tire carriers for 60 series Land Cruisers, you'd think more people would use an adapted/modified form of this for the purpose. Looking at my 4Runner parked next to my FJ62, it seems like it'd be a fairly straightforward affair. It may not be the answer for those of us running huge meats, but it'd work fine for a 31 inch tire...

Well.... make it happen, Cap'n. Let's see some pics. ;)

There is a kit you can buy that is similar, I can't remember where I saw it, but it was around $900.00. I wouldn't see any problems in it, you would probably need to reinforce where you mount it but other than that it should be straight forward. Im sure it would have a little bit of an offset to it though.
