yup manual tranny in 96 through 2000 years and an optional "rear diff lock" for these years as well. Button is on dash to the left of the steering wheel if you are looking.
2 engine options... 2.7 litre inline 4 cylinder rated about the same hp as the 3.0 I think
and the 3.4 litre V6.
The 2.7 is an interference fit engine with a timing chain, exhaust manifold known to crack
The 3.4 is a non interference fit engine with a timing belt to be changed every 100K or so. Prone to water pump leakage so usually addressed with timing belt.
Both solid engines! I own both and the highway mileage for me is a bit better with the 3.4.
In my opinion a 99 or 2000 model is worth it for the better cup holders, power outlets, console lighting, nicer bucket seats, heated mirrors, think they sat a bit higher but rear bumpers seem more prone to rusting through on the extensions.
Some concerns with front rotors warping on these years.
At any rate we own 3 of these 3rd gens and I sure like them. I pretty much change fluids in them and drive them.
