I found a nice '08 out of state (I am in CA) and I was reading on the CA DMV website that not all '49 state' models will pass CA emissions. Reality or 'scare' tactic?

Anyone have experience registering a 49 state model in CA w/out getting hassled/needing work to get registered?

Also, I see CA has a 'use tax' for 7500+ mile used vehicles brought in state by residents within a year of purchase...basically sales tax. So bogus.

I can think of many higher yielding ways to stop tax leakage......

All 200s are 50 state legal.

there is a difference between cali spec and fed spec. carb is more strict on emissions then the feds and the emission parts are not interchangeable. really the only difference is emissions, but thats not as big a deal on newer cars since most everything is 50 legal.

Toyota's website states the Cruiser is 50 state legal.

Sales tax is the same rate on a new car, a used car and a box of rocks. Move to OR. No sales tax there.
