I need help (or maybe some of you will say I'm fine and just coming to my senses). On Wednesday my 550 OT+ in the most beautiful shade known as Nori Green Pearl arrived and I took delivery by trading in my 200 Series. I just returned from the dealership having turned the GX back in and unwinding the deal. I just didn't find it worth the sum of it's parts. It's missing that dash of "extra" you would expect when stepping UP from a Toyota to a Lexus.

The build quality on these seems to be hit and miss. On mine the hood flutter was real and very evident, even cruising down city streets at 30mph. While I found the overall handling and driving dyamics to be a big improvement from the 200, the ride quality actually felt slightly worse. Hitting the same pot holes and bumps I regulary deal with in my neighborhood the 200 just soaked them up where as the 550 was a bit more jarring. The thickness of the double pane glass did not appear to be any thicker than the standard single pane glass in the rear doors. The Mark Levinson stereo is a huge dissapointment in audio quality as well. (Acutally preferred the JBL system in the 200 as it sounded less "tinny" on the mids and highs. The rear hitch was a problem for my 1UP bike rack as well, there is not enough room to lock the security pin in place. Along with other little QOL things I noticed like "oh where do I store my business cards and sunglasses?" In the 550 it's either going in the cool box or laying in the front seat. Door cards aren't big enough to hold even a typical 20oz water bottle. Wireless phone warmer, not much of a charger, etc. Also at the risk of sounding like a boomer I was not a fan of being forced to sign up for Toyota/Lexus connected services in order to use things like the remote start, lock/unlock, smart fob, and some of the other driver assist/roadside service/safety features they advertise. It was so nice to have Carplay again for a couple of days but everything else in the vehicle being locked to "guest mode" all because I don't want them harvesting and selling my driving habits, locations, etc was pretty off putting. They press you hard at the dealership to sign up for these things btw. Apparently the dealership and consequently, sales staff get scored negavtively if a customer doesn't register for these free trials. I know my data is already out there from being a Google customer and having previously been on FB, Twitter, etc but I just want to drive my effing car in peace and not be pestered to subscribe to something when one of those free trials runs out.

Anyhow hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving. 🦃

I hope you will get back 100% of your $$$. Will you also be able to get back your LC? I hope so.

Fair comments on the GX, especially the ML sound disappointment which I’ve expressed several times.

The GX, like all vehicles, has areas to strengthen/improve improve and Lexus/Toyota does seem to take the macro feedback into consideration. Continue to enjoy your 200, they are keepers.

Yes, my 200 is back in my garage. No money was exchanged on the deal, they were actually going to write me a check. (I had opted to try a “one payment” lease wherein the equity of my 200 would have been enough to cover the full 36 month term plus they would have been writing me a check for another $33k.

Wow thats disappointing.

Did you get to test drive a GX or an LX (being you had a 200 before only rightfully so to offer you the next generation replacement) before your order was placed?

That dealership deserves your future business for their willingness to work with a customer post sales. Congrats on getting the 200 back!

Unwinding a deal post delivery usually only happens when the dealership contract is essentially invalid whether the way it was written or the bank kicks it back for something.

Side note:
GX550 issues are well documented on this forum link

I was on their wait list. Had signed up earlier this year, March time frame.

I got to drive a pre production build earlier this summer and a pre owned one a couple of weeks ago. I think I just blinded by the lights and excitement of something new on that last test drive. I have never driven a LX.

Good move, I bet you would have also missed the sliding 2nd row… and tailgate!

Tailgate, sliding second row, rear zone climate controls and overhead vents. Also another, less mentioned “feature” IMO, is that you can fold down the middle seat back which allows a clear view from the rear view mirror out back.

That was a good experience and at least the dealership seems a decent one regardless of the fact they wanted to sell you the extra crap. 🙏🏿.

I seem to remember reading that you weren't happy with your LC200, hopefully you can resolve whatever issues you had with it.

I am in a similar predicament and have cross shopped a few other cars from different brands and styles, not test drove them alm yet, but hopefully will. I am enjoying my LC200 for now.

I really REALLY wish the LC250 / GX550 would be perfect but they aren't for me, either this or that, there is always something not totally right, again for me. I am VERY HAPPY for those forum brothers that got one and are enjoying them 🫂.

Here some thoughts for you:
Honda Pilot Trail edition.
Subaru outback.
Tahoe Z71.
Defender.
Yet to come Nissan Armada
Grenadier

Best of luck to you 🎉👊🏿

There are things I dislike on the 200 as well but for what I’m looking for in a daily driver it’s still the best choice in spite of its shortcomings.

My feelings are the same. Missing also some specialness the 570 and 460 had as well. I sold mine back for $1k more than I paid for it and bought a CPO LX600. It has more of the feel I associate with Lexus of special.

GX exterior styling with LX interior quality would be chefs kiss. Also fix the hood for crying out loud. Do any of their other new models have that issue?

Glad you could simply hit the undo button here.

Keep the 200 for life. Maybe consider a 2nd car - more of a commuter / local / around town beater with much better driving dynamics for these situations. Plenty of fun stuff out there for not much money.

I love my 100 series. But if I'm by myself and/or doing around town errand stuff I am simply hardwired to be in a hurry. So I will almost always will grab the keys to my 5 speed '06 Corolla. Much easier (less frustrating) and way more fun to zip around in.

A 200 (or 100) is a terrible vehicle if you are in a hurry.

I had to spend $2k for PPF which I generally never apply to my cars because the hood is such trash.

To say I am unhappy about my GX550 would be an understatement, which is why I only drive the LX600.

It's disgusting that Lexus would make such a trash GX replacement vehicle.

I love the LX600, but I am seriously considering another brand going forward.

How would ppf fix the hood? The issue is there is not enough bracing between the humps on either side. That entire upper/middle portion of the hood just buffets in wind. The “fix” I have seen some others suggesting is to simply apply some additional adhesive between the hood and liner underneath but that just sounds like a cheap band aid that is bound to fall off over time.

It is a cheap band-aid! But it prevents dents from acorns and twigs and sneezing bc the hood metal is so thin it dents from literally any contact!

I believe the hood flutter exists on all new TNGA-F products because of efficiency gains on the material side. Ppf wont assist on resolving the flutter, but its always good protection on rock chips.

This is exactly what I see the 250 as, a good local commuter
