4x4 world, thats where I got all the gear for my resto, they were pretty good price and when I had to call about something missing (which they replaced in 2 days) I had a good chat with the bloke about my resto.

Chappo: thanks for putting me onto that, it's great and easy to follow.

I just bought spare kits for my brake and clutch master cylinders from him..

:)

Yeah he's a good fella @lostmarbles - he goes the extra mile. He's literally about 5 mins from my house, so if anything goes awry I can help liase.

yep, thanks mate will do. The old girl gets picked up today and possibly delivered if he brings the load up to our parts. he's forced to drop off the cruiser first:D

Well good news guys, she gets picked up tonight lock stock and barrel. But I've two questions:

How many litres of oil does a 2H hold/need?

What kind of stuff?-dads got loads of cheapish 20W-50 of pre 1996 diesel engine oil-will it do the trick?

Cheers

We put about 9.8 litres in the 2H last service, I think the capacity is 10 litres.
20w50 should be fine in summer. I run 15w40, but I know a 1HD-T that gets 20W50 and she's not complaining.

As for cheap well, as far as I'm concerned oil is the lifeblood of an engine, especially a diesel engine. Oil maketh the engine. Having said that, if it's fkd then cheap oil ain't gonna fix it. Depends on the state of the engine and how long you want to get out of it.

I put the 20/50 in too. Pretty much the whole 10 litres - the specs say 9.7 when done with a change of filter.

Good luck with the ute, what a great chrissie present to get!

Well I got the cruiser and have been mostly cleaning it. There is so much country red dirt in it that It fills the chassis rails but it does not rust it, thankfully. The bad rust spots are only in the tub, which is annoying when the rest of the tub is one of the best I've seen. It has a small rust hole on the inside of the passenger door but nothing too hard to fix.

I got the brakes working and then I noticed that it had drums on the front which is fine by me so long as they work (they do very well at the moment). So I checked the production date and it reads: 12/81!!?? it has a tacho meter which led me to believe that its basically an 82. so I wacked a battery in and checked the electronics which all work, bar the blinkers don't flash because there's no blinker lights.

It has Rancho shockers all around as well as coils and leafies, which give it about 2 inches and a very rough ride. Everything inside seems to be missing half of its mounting bolts which is also annoying, but other wise it's pretty much all there.

The battery is a car battery off my 1979 rover rancher which is a beast of a machine, but it was not enough to turn the engine over more than a couple of times. I also pulled out the seats so that I could clean the cab properly but I'll be putting them back in today.

So that basically where I'm at, but today AussieHJCrusier is coming up to give me a hand, and I will get the clutch happening and get it started and drive it around a little and put it onto the grass so that I can blast out the chassis. So to do that I will need to get a bigger Battery, get a new slave, fuel filter, oil filter and some decent oil, and change it. I Don't see the point in draining the diesel which is in there because it's a pain and its got half a tank and it seems fine plus the PO said that it wasn't that long since he had driven it (10 months at most).

Yes I know that I haven't got any pics because I had nothing to take them with, but there coming today.

Yeah some hj47 had drum brakes on the front still. my mate has a hj47 84 with drums on the front and he is the original owner

I'm hanging out for the pics....
