Have you done the 470-to-460 front brake upgrade?
I installed a 338mm GX460 brake disc and GX460 caliper with a 976 pad.
Notice how the edge of the pad extends beyond the disc. Everything is supposed to be for a 2010 GX460.
Looking for experienced comments.

Looks like the pad is sitting a bit further out from the edge of the rotor? is there a gap on the inner?

what brand pads and rotors?

In general is called overhang and it is fine. I put a bbk on my endurance racecar and it happens to our rear pads, barely effects pad performance and you are still getting superior stopping power from increased rotor radius acting as a longer fulcrom.

If you could fit larger diameter rotors without rubbing the calipers though it would improve your braking power even more. Our racecar rubbed the rotor on the inner channel of the caliper so its as big as we can get and we just ignore the overhang and it works fine.

No clue what the max rotor diameter can be vs the 338mm rotor diameter you are showing us in picture. It will come down to your brake caliper not rubbing your rotor. Oem vs aftermarket calipers may have different thresholds as well.

You also might be able to find a brand of pad that has the pads mounted lower on the backing plate but i would recommend using brake pad compounds that match your needs and ignore the overhang

As I understand, the pads are the same between 470 and 460, the only upgrade is the FRONT calipers and rotors. Did you figure out why yours was like that? I do not recall having this issue or maybe I just didn't pay attention.

I purchased 4 different manufacturers' pads of the same part number (976) to compare. Two of them put the pad farther out on the backing plate and extended slightly beyond the rotor. The other two placed the pad more toward the axle centerline and did not overhang the rotor. Must be production variances. Go figure.
So, if you make the switch, double-check the pad/rotor relationship.

that’s quite a bit of “over bite” in that photo. As to the different brands, which brands did you investigate?

Bosch BC976, AC Delco Silver, Raybestos Element 3, and Bendix Priority 1. The Bendix and Raybestos had overbite and Delco and Bosch did not.
I went with Bosch.

Thats funny we run raysbestos st43s on our racecar. Bad ass racing brake pads, little bit of overhang :D they squeal like train brakes driving around town but get them hot on a track and you can kick the snot out of them all weekend with no issues. 100% worth the overhang
