In my search to stay original with my SWB 45 build up I found some 45LV springs that will work. The springs on my 45 are completely flat due to 5 or 6 inch shackles all the way around as a "lift".

Question 1- I wonder if returning original shackles could restore these springs back to the original( close to) original bend?

If the answer to #1 is no, then The springs on the 45lv have been removed and are sitting with the axles.

Question 2- How can I tell if they are worth buying? They have some original curve to them and are not rusted out.

Any suggestions? I would hate to buy them and have them be as flat as mine are now.

thanks

Aaron

Aaron-

The following should help. This is out of the Chassis and Body Manual.

Should be able to somewhat use the measurements to check them.

Aaron, just assume the springs are going to be flat. Either buy yourself a pair of long add a leafs like I did on the lwb or save up for some Alcans. If you wait long enough, you can buy my used 45 springs, which have a good arch with the add a leafs, when I step up to Alcans. Might be a while tho.

thanks

thanks guys.

My opinion is don't re-arch them and adding a spring to the batch....it's the "trail and error" method when you go this route. If the arch is too great or not enough or if the combo of springs used are not right it will be too stiff or not enough,,,etc., etc. It's best to get new ones and do it once...I learned the heard way. Any spring will sag over time. I'm would surprised if old man emu/darkar don't make springs for this vehicle. Alcan for sure can make you set. I bought springs for my 40 from alcan.....I'am very happy with them. Good Luck. :)
