Has anyone had their stock 2F FJ45 muffler system replaced with a custom TUNED single muffler system? Mine is all original 2.25” pipe with pinhole leaks starting to show up. It has that nasty stock bend under the left side near the frame cross tube that has had a few bashes with earth obstacles also.
Since I am going to replace the 9’-10’ section of pipe to include the muffler (no cat) I would rather install something that will help with the breathing and maintain backpressure for the off-roading.
I plan on as straight pipe as possible and maybe going to 2.50” tube but not sure about the muffler type.
We use to have a good muffler shop in town that worked street and race cars and had one of the best exhaust guys I have ever met but they have since packed up and closed the doors. Stopped in a few shops and told them what I wanted (what I wanted) and I get all kinds of crap like go 3” pipe, put a split pipe then 3” pipe with a full flow muffler and so on. Not much in the way of professionals, just trying to sell a muffler job. Pretty basic job just want some input from other owners of the 45 before I cut.
Used this chart for reffrance - http://www.exhaustvideos.com/faq/how-to-calculate-muffler-size-pipe-diameter/#easy
Thanks

I must be getting old to say I like the stock toyota system on my stock fj/hj45. If I find a 12ht engine I would be going with a 3 inch system with one muffler with a hot dog type resonator to help with any exhaust drone. :)

With time come age and change.
When we reflect back 30-40 years in the day Toyota like many auto builders had some cutting edge engineers that could build a space ship if they wanted but they were building on old technology. Thank goodness the exhaust system was straight forward compared to some of todays rocket ship pipes and cats and other apparatuses attached. With the newer designed mufflers replacements compared to the 30 year old one's, one should expect a bit more in performance not that the 2F is a race car engine, just should breathe a bit better. Its a matter of matching up the replacement items, in my case no six into one headers as I found most of them always work loose at the head or have gasket blow-by problems, just stock single pipe works for me just as for you.
I just would like to install what is top of heap of improve parts to keep the old gal breathing well for another twenty years. I guess I will take it into one of those places that has the computer readout on the exhaust system and go from there.
I know it is a lot for just an exhaust, but if there is better parts, why not.
Oh, your not old just getting better at blowing out birthday candles.
Thanks
