I have a 4 speed behind a 3B, I'm replacing with a 5 speed, I'm using a BJ60's front and rear driveshafts ( I can keep my 4 speed and stock shafts for spares) I found apost that said the rear shaft is exactly 3 inches shorter (than the 4 speed rear), but what is the difference in length of teh front shaft? is it longer becuase the 5 speed case is back farther? What do I have to do to the front 60 shaft to fit my 40?

Any help would be appreciated...

It should be longer by the same amount the rear is shorter. Since you are going to have to have them retubed anyway, just measure flange-to-flange and tell the drive shaft folks the measurement.

Yes, front shaft is longer and stock 60 front shaft is to short to go straight in. I shortened a rear 60 shaft to fit when i did my conversion.
I should say that this was done to a 45, but that shouldn't make any difference regards front shaft length and mine is also a petrol model
