What is involved in removing the output shaft of a 4 speed ? I have the engine trans and tc out And all seperate. Anyone have details :) or a place to find the diagrams on how do disasemble the trans

thanks

You need to remove the "C" clips from the counter shaft bearings and allow the counter shaft to drop to the bottom of the case then you can remove the input shaft and finally the output shaft.
btw They can be real nasty to take apart as the bearings fit really tight in the case. I had ours apart to swap the input shaft and casing to mate it to the 3B diesel in the FJ55 using a '60 series crossmember.

The one I did was a real biatch to get the shaft off the rear output bearing. It took an 8 pound sledge with a two hand swing to get it to move. I don't recommend fooling with them because they are cheap. Find another good used one.

I second the 'hard' part. I have the full set of the factory SST tranny tools and getting those bearings out will just about break the factory tools! I have had to improvise my own reinforcements for the tools, and have been tempted to pull out the BFH. Then I remember: it's a customer's tranny, and I have to play nice! :D

It IS possible without the factory tools. I don't have them and I was able to get it apart but it took persuasion from a rubber mallet (no sledge hammers please) as well as some creative thinking all the while I was looking at the FSM for the proper dismantling order.
Easy?? Definitely NOT, but it was possible with this particular tranny. There is a shop in town who I brought my H55 to in order to get new bearings & syncro's and he nearly broke the SST's!
