I'll add to jacks statement and also say keep the shackle angle shallower too. I think I set mine at around 25 or 30 deg. This might not be an issue w/ mini springs, but cruiser spring that are SOA I had to be concerned w/ springs settling and kicking the shackle angles out too steep.
 
Duals are in. I built new 3/8" plate brackets for the skid since the huge oval holes didnt line up. Now the bolt holes are dead on and everything fits snug.

I plan on making a custom sheet metal console.

Also threw on some 5" Allpro rear leafs to level it out. Moved the axle back just a bit to lengthen the wheel base.

New CV DS I had bayshore build. Thick wall tube and its beefy!

Wish I could post videos..... In low low it idles up my steep driveway by itself. :D

I remember those days, I could put it in low, low and rev to 3k and still out walk it. That kind of gearing is pretty awesome, you will like it on the technical obstacles. Darcie really enjoyed driving the tough stuff with the deep gearing, it allowed her to concentrate on the lines and not so much on not stalling it.

Matt,

I've had a couple MT/R Kevlar tires that they just couldn't get balanced. Its been a QC issue with Goodyear dating back to pre-Kevlar MT/R days. A friend of mine who formerly owned a Big O tire store here told me to get 4 good MT/R's they'd have to go through a pile of ten or more due to QC/imbalanced construction issues. And my experience with MT/R's has born this out.

Discount Tire just replaced one of my new MT/R Kevlar tires with a brand new tire at no charge as they couldn't, after repeated visits, get the darn thing balanced.

I like the tread design of the MT/R Kevlar but in addition to balancing issues I don't like how easily (relative) the sidewall rubber slices. And the fact the new MSRP for my size is $487 EACH with zero QC and rubber compound improvement puts me in the 'new tire shopper' category.

Basically the same experiences Ive had as well as others, Dan. I cant remember if I told you, but I had to have Sam warranty one tire cause I could stick my finger into the soft chewing gum like sidewall. It was leaking air each time the tire rotated and flexed the sidewall.

Not to impressed and wont be buying anything goodyear anymore. I really wish I had money for the Mickey Baja Claw MTZ's. Had a set for a while years back and loved them.

Thanks Keith! Its been a lot of fun these past few months... More to come this winter for sure.
 
Decided I'm just going to go with the Bilstien 5125's.
I plan on building my own hoops, but I'm trying to decide on the 12 or 14" shocks. Using the chart on Marlins website, I could fit the 14's, (21 compressed vs 19 for the 12") but not sure if its necessary. I would have to cut the wheel well to get the height, which is no big deal. Depends on how much down travel I have, but I havent been able to flex the truck out.
I think i can make the 14s work, so thats what I'll probably go with.

Opinions?

Might have a front DS this week, maybe then I can go flex it out and measure. Curious to see how she flexes! :eek:

I agree. Great looking sliders, they should hold up.

Just one thing to consider for the future...
In general, you want to try and NOT weld vertically on the frame as this can cause a weakness in the structure of the frame. That is usually why most kits have elliptical scab plates.
Whether it makes a huge difference or not... I donno...
 
Hmmmmm.... I thought about using an "L" still bracket to go on the bottom of the frame, but I had all the plate at home to use and figured this was fine. Oh well... I don't plan on bashing the heck out of the sliders so hopefully they will hold up.
 
Out of curiosity, why those shocks ?
What advantage do those have over... Say.... Pro comps or ranchos??
 
The reason is ask is because my shocks feel pretty stiff.
I used them on the blotch rig, which was obviously a much heavier rig, but I'm thinking that I might like something a little softer.
