Ok so not long ago my timing belt tensioner went bad. I have never replaced a timing belt on this motor, so I had my concerns. I used a FSM so I was not too concerned. I checked and checked my timing marks to make sure the lined up right and they did. So tonight I went to fill it back up with coolant and it fired right up! WooHoo! That lasted all for 20-30 seconds as the idle speed began to fluctuate like crazy. It would jump around from 2000-2300 or so...it started to moved down to 1800-2000 or so after letting it run like this. It is a very rapid fluctuation. I had no problems with the truck like this ever before... This is my daily driver and I desperately need help!!!

Thanks,

Andy

Ok, now that it has warmed up and the high idle has cut off and its fine, there is no fluctuation. So ya'll think its anything that I could have done wrong? Or, just somehow mess up right after I install a timing belt...?

If you had the battery disconnected during the timing belt replacement it was most likely the ECM trying to relearn tha idle parameters.

The battery was disconnected, but not for more than a day. I have disconnected it before and it has never done that. So apparently my truck does not have a IACV? It is some type of coolant operated valve? Could it be that after pulling the radiator and draining all the coolant that coolant had not reached the valve yet?

Thanks 2ndGen, I am gonna crank it this morning and see what happens. Its a tad bit nipplely this morning, i'll let ya'll know what happens.

Haha! She purrs like a kitten! No crazy a$$ idle fluctuation! Sorry guys, I tend to over-react when stuff like this happens and I go straight to ya'll for answers.:D
