3rd Row Retrofit?

Does anyone know if you can retrofit the OEM 3rd row seats to a 5 seater 2016-2021 Land Cruiser?
I’m not sure how much this helps, but I have a 5 seater 2021 Heritage and when I installed my goose gear drawer, I drilled through the floor in the cargo area and found the holes where the 3rd row would have been bolted down.
Those holes are already threaded and I used them to attach the goose gear plate.

Not practically. While most of it would bolt in, the third row seats partially mount to brackets that are welded to the wheel wells on appropriate models. You’d need to fabricate these yourself or find a shop that will, and in my experience for this kind of safety stuff many shops don’t want to get involved for liability reasons.

From memory though here’s a rough list of the interior parts that would need to be sourced and swapped.

Headliner (middle seatbelt upper anchor)
Middle seatbelt
Both interior upper and lower side panels (provisions for seat stow)
Both rear side seatbelts
Lower floor anchors

And after all of that, there may not be airbag coverage for the third row.

If you haven't seen it in person, the 3rd row isn't very good anyways. If you really need a 3-row vehicle on a regular basis, there are better choices than a 200.

Thanks to all of your responses, they’ve all been super helpful. Long story short, I really want a 3 row heritage edition 200 series, but they only came as an option on the 2021. There seems to be a lot more 5 seater 2020 year model heritage editions on the market that are significantly cheaper, so wanted to explore retrofitting the 3rd row.

I think the move might be just to find a 3rd row non-heritage edition and retrofit all the heritage stuff. Don’t want to mess with welding brackets.

How much of the stuff will you retrofit? A lot of it would be very expensive.. removing door moldings, removing cool box, sourcing gold-stitched seats, special headlamps and grille…

The wheels, badge, and rack would be easy enough though

All the Heritage stuff?????

I don't get it. The Heritage edition doesn't have a side steps, it has special wheels, it doesn't have the coolbox, and it has badges on the D-pillar. So buy a regular model, pull off the side steps, and add the badges on the D-pillar. You'll have a harder time finding the wheels, but you can probably find a set.

Unfortunately, the down side is that the third row options are not in a Land Cruiser.....
Yes, but if you really need a 3rd row, the 3rd row in the 200 really does suck. The seat bottoms are basically flat on the floor, so it isn't comfortable for anyone above the age of a toddler. That is my point. The 3rd row in the LC is basically a useless waste of cargo space.

I looked into this briefly because the first LX i drove was a 5 seater. I really dont think its worth the effort unless you already own the truck. I ended up getting the 8 seater for basically the same price and got the extra options along with it.

At least on the LX, the 5 seater version almost seems like it was built to be an UBER.

Its really not that bad IMHO. Have you sat in the 3rd row of a Suburban before they went independent suspension? Or even an Expedition? My parent have an expedition EL and the 3rd row isnt anything special, it just has way more cargo space behind the seats being like 2' longer. I have had mulitple Tahoe/Suburban rentals and my coworkers were always pissed when they had to sit in the 3rd row.

I sat in the 3rd row of an LX570, and didn’t think it was too bad. The 3rd row would only be used once in a blue moon for occasional family trips, but is my wife’s pre-requisite for a family rig. So in all honesty, an excuse for me to buy a Land Cruiser haha

The nice thing about the LC is that they are super easy to remove. 3 bolts and one electrical connector and you can pop the seat out. Mine sit in the basement until I need them and then I usually only put one in and leave the other half of the trunk for cargo.

I had a GX460 before, and while they folded flat into the floor, it still meant you were missing a lot cargo volume because the floor was 6" higher as a result of the seats. They were a serious pain to remove.

Exactly, I’ve heard most people just remove and store them. That’s probably what I’ll do as well, but would be nice to have them in the rare instances I need them. The back seats will almost be exclusively ridden by little kids.

Yes, I have, and yes, it is that bad. That is why your coworkers were always pissed when they had to sit in the 3rd row. 🤷‍♂️ And that is why the Takoekonburbanslade and the Expedition now have independent rear suspensions.

I'd like to remove mine on my LX 570, but then what do I do about the holes in the floor? The loss of cargo space in the GX 460 was on of the main reasons that I took that truck off my list.

Ok, sorry. I disagree though.

You leave them there and ignore them. Or you could cut out a piece of plywood or 3D print something to fill in the spot.

3D printing is not my area of expertise. Plywood would look like hell. And not having that area covered with something would probably increase road noise in the cabin.
